Responsibilities
  • Assesses patients and collects information from diverse sources using observation, communication, data review, and physical assessment. Makes a nursing diagnosis and plans, performs, and evaluates nursing interventions.
  • Collaborates with patients and families to develop and modify care plans, fostering therapeutic relationships and ensuring patient rights to privacy, dignity, and autonomy.
  • Participates in admission, care and discharge planning, ensuring effective implementation, updates, and communication with the interprofessional team.
  • Coordinates nursing care, sets priorities, delegates tasks, and makes referrals according to protocols.
  • Collaborates with team members (physicians, LPNs, patient care coordinator, etc.) to resolve issues and adjust care plans.
  • Educates patients and families about illness prevention, health restoration, and maintenance, assessing learning needs and demonstrating self‑care activities.
  • Plans and discusses referrals with patients/family and initiates referrals to appropriate health care/community agencies.
  • Documents assessments, nursing diagnoses, interventions, outcomes, and referrals per practice standards.
  • Participates in nursing committees, care conferences, and councils as assigned.
  • Engages in research and quality improvement activities, collecting data and identifying corrective actions.
  • Attends in‑services and educational programs, identifying learning goals and maintaining clinical competence.
  • Acts as a preceptor or mentor to new nursing staff and students, sharing information and participating in orientation.
  • Provides feedback to Manager regarding effectiveness of patient care programs, policies, clinical decision support tools, and equipment.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
  • Qualifications

    Education and Experience

    Graduation from an approved School of Nursing with current registration as a Registered Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM). Completion of applicable post‑graduate coursework in emergency or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience in emergency.

    Skills and Abilities

    • Perform initial and ongoing patient assessment and provide nursing care through appropriate interventions.
    • Communicate effectively with patients, families, public, medical staff, and interprofessional team members via verbal, written, and electronic means.
    • Promote person‑centered care, demonstrating empathy and advocating for patients and families.
    • Integrate and evaluate data from multiple sources to problem‑solve effectively.
    • Teach and instruct patients and families on essential health care topics.
    • Organize and prioritize work.
    • Collaborate and promote cooperation among interprofessional care team members.
    • Use clinical decision‑making supported by evidence‑based practice.
    • Operate relevant equipment and computer applications.
    • Maintain physical ability to perform job duties.
