Department Manager, Centre of Store

Save‑On‑Foods is B.C.’s Most Loved Brand and certified a Great Place to Work®. We are hiring for a Department Manager, Centre of Store at our Austin Save‑On‑Foods location in Coquitlam, BC. This is a full‑time position, 40 hours per week, and the successful applicant must have open availability.
- Lead the department, acting as a coach, mentor, and resource while fostering a positive team environment focused on Always Customer First service.
- Ensure the department executes and achieves operational excellence through customer experience, health and safety, food safety, and merchandising.
- Engage and retain team members through training, performance management, rewards/recognition, and succession planning.
- Communicate key messages and business objectives to team members, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
- Support the management team in reviewing and analyzing income statements and identifying opportunities to improve performance within the department.
- Review and interpret department financial reports and present KPIs to the management team.
- Analyze business/HR metrics and dashboards of the department.
- Assist the management team with implementing strategies to grow sales and customer loyalty.
- Lead inventory counts/period end of the department and resolve issues as needed.
- Perform all job duties throughout the department as needed, including lifting weight (up to 50 lbs), standing for long periods, and working in hot/cold environments.
- 1-3 years of retail experience.
- Leadership experience is an asset.
- Food Safe Certification.
- Post‑secondary education in a business‑related field is an asset.
- Experience and/or knowledge with achieving sales targets and profitability.
- Executing merchandising plans and creating in‑store displays to drive sales.
- Human Resources (e.g., training, development, coaching and mentoring).
- Employee Relations and knowledge of the collective agreement (if applicable).
- Scheduling.
- Proficiency with computer applications.
- Leader that embodies the leadership competency model through communication, collaboration, initiative and awareness.
- Self‑aware, empathetic, and possessing a high level of Emotional Intelligence (EQ).
- Effective communicator with interpersonal and relationship building skills.
- Proactive with an entrepreneurial mindset.
- Thrives in fast‑paced, dynamic environment while meeting organizational goals.
- Committed to maintaining department standards with strong attention to detail and accuracy, ensuring operational excellence.
