ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Help refer children to the appropriate services when required.
  • Promote land‑based activities for youth, fostering healthy relationships with their environment.
  • Work closely with youth mental health supports in and outside the community.
  • Develop, initiate, and implement activities that build self‑confidence and self‑esteem for female youth.
  • Help drive a healthy relationship with children, the community, and the Agency.
  • Engage, develop, and implement youth to identify issues, needs, goals, skills, abilities and services needed.
  • Work closely with the family services team and caregivers to support goals identified by the youth.
  • Engage parents and youth through existing parenting groups, family groups, or other community programs.
  • Develop collaborative relationships with youth, families, and informal/formal support systems to strengthen child and youth circles.
  • Collaborate with Education, Wellness, and other departments to maintain existing youth programs and service levels while striving to implement further initiatives.
  • Engage youth in suitable recreational and social activities that build on strengths, develop interpersonal skills, and support involvement in their beliefs to strengthen identity.
  • Recognise potential crisis situations, analyse accurately, and implement coping strategies.
  • Maintain service statistics and record all services.
  • Participate in team meetings on a regular basis.
  • Transport clients.
  • Adhere to all OLFS policies and procedures.
  • Perform other duties that complement the role of Female Youth Worker.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
  • Certificate or diploma in Human Services, social work, or equivalent.
  • Relevant work experience.
  • Combined education and experience are considered.
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s licence with acceptable abstract.
  • Clear criminal record with vulnerable sector check.
COMPETENCIES
  • Knowledge and experience in Cree culture, protocols, and ceremonies (asset).
  • Understanding of the historical significance of residential schools and its relation to OLCN.
  • Ability to work under pressure and stressful situations.
  • Strong principles and ethics.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Excellent organisational and time‑management skills.
  • Physical ability to lift up to 20 lbs.
HAZARD ASSOCIATED WITH JOB
  • Physical and cognitive ergonomics.
  • Travel.
  • Some flex time on evenings and weekends.
