Indigenous Counsellor

Position: Indigenous Counsellor at Douglas College
Make a meaningful impact as an Indigenous Counsellor at Douglas College, providing culturally sensitive support for Indigenous students. This role includes individual counselling and group workshops, fostering a tailored approach to student wellness.

Douglas College values diversity and is situated on the traditional territories of Coast Salish Peoples. The Indigenous Counsellor will join the Student Affairs and Services department, engaging actively with Indigenous students and offering crisis intervention and culturally relevant practices. This faculty position is integral in shaping responsive support services aligned with UN and Truth and Reconciliation goals.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide individual counselling for Indigenous students

• Conduct culturally-based workshops on wellness topics

• Coordinate crisis intervention services

• Liaise with external agencies for student referrals

• Participate in departmental meetings and events

Requirements:

• Relevant counselling degree or equivalent experience

• Knowledge of Indigenous cultures and practices

• Strong communication and crisis assessment skills

• Ability to work collaboratively in diverse settings

• Willingness to adapt based on student needs
