Position Overview

Woolpert is hiring an experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our dynamic team. The position is aligned with our offices in New York City, NY;
Orlando, FL; or Coral Gables, FL and supports full‑time in‑person or hybrid working arrangements. The role will lead engineering projects, support strategic and KPI goals, contribute to proposals, oversee project scope, schedule, and fee, and ensure effective resources are assigned to projects. The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills, technical expertise, and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.

This role includes performing mechanical HVAC engineering technical work on complex projects, mentoring staff, and applying proficiency in designing, analyzing, and reviewing MEP/FP systems to ensure safety, sustainability, and compliance with industry standards.

What You Will Do as a Senior Mechanical Engineer at Woolpert
  • Lead mechanical HVAC engineering technical work for complex projects.
  • Track project progress, including scope, schedule, and fee.
  • Oversee technical review and provide high quality deliverables.
  • Develop and modify models, plans, details, and drawings of mechanical and plumbing engineering systems and components according to established standards and modeling techniques.
  • In‑depth knowledge for team guidance of energy modeling, load calculations, and LCCA analysis using modeling software and techniques.
  • In‑depth knowledge for team guidance of mechanical design for various systems including plant design, fuel piping, steam systems, boilers, cooling towers/chillers, geothermal, and other.
  • Support career development and technical skill advancement of team members.
Leadership & Project Management
  • Motivate and inspire team members.
  • Communicate complex technical information to non‑technical stakeholders.
  • Foster a collaborative team culture with a focus on innovation and excellence.
  • Manage project and staffing plans, adjusting them as necessary to meet changing project needs.
  • Oversee engineering project phases from initiation to completion, ensuring projects are completed on time, within budget, and meet quality standards.
  • Serve as a technical expert and discipline representative at various meetings and events as required.
  • Deliver presentations at conferences, networking events, and professional organizations to highlight Woolpert’s distinctive services.
  • Conduct training sessions for internal employees when necessary.

What You Will Bring
  • BA/BS or MA/MS in related field and fifteen (15) years related experience.
  • Registered Professional Engineer (PE) certification required.
  • Minimum of five (7) years of experience leading engineering projects.
  • Experience with building HVAC system design for commercial, mixed‑use, aviation, hospitality, and/or high‑rise preferred.
  • Experience designing sustainable building systems, including familiarity with LEED, Green Building Institute, or other sustainability credentialing.
  • Excellent presentation, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Expert verbal and written communication abilities for both internal and external relationships.
