Position: Police Officer – Non-Certified ($10,000 Sign-On Bonus)

Summary

NON-CERTIFIED POLICE RECRUIT
$10,000 hiring bonus and Police Academy sponsorship
Additional 4.5% FDLE pay once certified by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement’s Criminal Justice Training Commission

Minimum Requirements
  • 21 years of age (candidates may apply 6 months before their 21st birthday)
  • United States citizen
  • A minimum of 54 accredited college credits
  • Three years of active military service can substitute for the college credit requirement
  • Three years of full‑time police officer experience can substitute for the college credit requirement
How to Apply

  • Complete every question thoroughly; incomplete applications may be disqualified
  • Applicants who meet the minimum requirements will be scheduled for an in‑person meeting where paperwork will be completed and additional information will be provided
  • Upon completion of all documentation, applicants will be invited to an interview and oral board
  • Physical Agility Test (PAT)

    All applicants must pass the Physical Agility Test before a conditional offer can be issued. The PAT is offered at three locations and candidates who complete the PAT before orientation will be prioritized for interview scheduling.

    Job Duties and Responsibilities

    Enforce the laws and ordinances of the City, County, and State. Patrol an assigned area by foot or vehicle, pursue and apprehend subjects, conduct felony stops, manage disorderly persons, transport subjects, secure evidence, file reports, and process paperwork. Respond to traffic, rescue, and emergency calls, conduct investigations of crime scenes and domestic violence, control riots, direct evacuations, and perform first aid duties.

    • HOLIDAYS: 13 days including 2 floating days
    • SICK LEAVE: 96 hours annually
    • ANNUAL LEAVE: starts at 80 hours in the first year up to 188 after 25 years
    • BEREAVEMENT LEAVE: 5 or 10 days depending on degree of relation
    • HEALTH & DENTAL INSURANCE: employee pays a small portion of the premium
    • LIFE INSURANCE: term life equal to 1× annual salary (up to $200,000) fully paid by the City
    • RETIREMENT HEALTH SAVINGS PLAN:
      City contributes $650 annually into an individual account for every employee
    • UNIFORM ALLOWANCE: $800 annually
    • TUITION REIMBURSEMENT: $2,000 per semester ($6,000 maximum annually) for approved coursework
