The Fire Technician 2 inspects, repairs, installs, modifies, and maintains fire systems, circuits, and equipment to ensure that facility operations run smoothly and uninterrupted.
Working Hours: 2nd shift (1pm – 9:30pm)
CORE JOB FUNCTIONS
Accompanies authorities during fire safety inspections and answers any questions. Verifies the condition of fire penetration at rated walls, and repairs ceilings, walls, doors, partitions, and other physical structures. Inspects fire pumps, extinguishers, fire alarms, and fire sprinklers for operation and inspection compliance. Installs and maintains fire related equipment. Keeps daily log up-to-date via work orders of completed and pending jobs.
Maintains accurate records of all repaired and restored fire rated areas. Identifies jobs that are beyond mechanic capability and reports to appropriate management staff to obtain assistance. Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
High School diploma or equivalent
Certification and Licensing:
Certification in relevant specialty or field or valid license from Miami Dade County or Associates in relevant field. Valid Florida Driver’s License.
Experience:
Minimum 4 years of relevant experience

Department Specific Functions
- Performs inspections, testing, programming, and servicing of fire alarm systems and other emergency equipment.
- Performs inspections, testing, programming, and servicing of fire suppression systems, including clean agent/dry chemical/wet chemical/pre-action types.
- Coordinates with contractors, project teams, local/state fire departments and building officials for inspections, certifying and testing systems.
- Timely coordination with direct supervisor to clarify assignments, materials/supplies/parts.
- Completes assigned work orders and documents work in a timely, clear and accurate manner.
- Maintains clear records of work performed, pending and incomplete.
- Plans, lays out and supervises work and special projects.
- Demonstrate supervisory and management skills, and temporarily acts in a supervisory or lead role for specific projects, programs or initiatives for the Shop or Department.
- Assures that work is performed to highest quality at the best competitive price within the agreed to time frame.
- Must maintain time schedules, and work with varied and flexible schedules, and aid in the development of efficient planning.
- This is an essential position, and must be able to perform shift work, respond to after hour’s emergency call-in, participate in the on‑call rotation calendar, and work with other crafts and work in environments out of normal duties as needed.
- Must be able to operate power equipment.
- Must demonstrate understanding and complying with verbal and written communications in English.
- Must have the ability to work in a team environment to provide a customer‑oriented service group to meet the changing needs of the University environment.
- Must possess and maintain a valid Florida driver's license and be able to meet the insurance requirements of the University of Miami and have a good driving record.

- Must have proven emphasis on teamwork, cooperation, customer relations and leadership in problem solving.
- Must work in compliance to codes and good workmanship standards and adheres to all safety and environmental regulations.
