Role: Technician – Built Environment and Sustainable Development

Location: Tresham College – Corby and Wellingborough Campuses

Salary/Benefits: Salary is between £24,552 and £26,754 per annum DOE and Qualifications, 27 days annual leave plus Bank holidays, People’s Pension, Retail and Leisure Discounts, excellent professional and personal development opportunities, accessing college courses.

Hours/Weeks: 37 hours per week – 52 weeks per year

Contract Type: Permanent – Full Time

About the role

We are currently seeking a Technician in Built Environment and Sustainable Development to join our Construction department at The Bedford College Group.

As a Technician, you play an important role in the success of our students through:

  • Workshop Management & Technical Provision – Create and maintain high‑quality, industry‑standard workshop environments, ensuring facilities, tools and equipment support effective teaching and learning.
  • Health, Safety & Compliance – Ensure workshops meet all health & safety, COSHH and regulatory requirements, maintaining safe, clean and compliant environments for staff and learners.
  • Stock Control, Budget & Asset Management – Manage stock levels, procurement and equipment maintenance, ensuring efficient use of resources and adherence to budget constraints.
  • Learning Support & Practical Delivery – Support lecturers and trainers in practical sessions, prepare materials and equipment, and contribute to hands‑on teaching and learner achievement.
  • Organisation, Collaboration & Professional Practice – Build effective relationships with staff and learners, support events and wider workshop operations, and uphold safeguarding, EDI, CPD and college standards.
About you
  • Construction Expertise & Technical Knowledge – Experience with in the construction industry, supported by a relevant diploma and strong understanding of industry practices, tools, equipment and COSHH regulations.
  • Workshop Support, Maintenance & Stock Control – Skilled in preparing, maintaining and repairing equipment, managing stock inventories and ordering materials to support effective workshop operations.
  • Health & Safety, Compliance & Safe Practice – Strong awareness of health and safety requirements, including safe use of machinery and tools, with commitment to achieving relevant certifications (e.g. First Aid, forklift).
  • Organisation, Communication & Teamwork – Highly organised and self‑motivated, able to work independently, communicate effectively and contribute positively within a team environment.
  • Professional Values, Safeguarding & Flexibility – Committed to safeguarding, equality and continuous development, with a flexible approach to working across sites and supporting high‑quality learner experiences.
