Wakefield / West Yorkshire | Competitive Salary  Car Allowance  Benefits Are you an experienced Financial Controller who enjoys being close to the business, influencing decisions and making a genuine difference beyond the numbers? Perhaps you've established yourself in a Financial Controller or senior finance leadership position, but you're now looking for something broader. More commercial exposure, greater autonomy, a stronger voice in business decisions and the opportunity to help shape the future of a growing acquisitive SME business.

Gifford and Partners are exclusively recruiting for a well established, profitable and ambitious privately owned group seeking to appoint a commercially minded Financial Controller. This is a genuinely influential appointment, offering the opportunity to combine technical financial leadership with handson operational involvement, business partnering and strategic input. Working closely with an experienced Group Finance Director and senior leadership team, you'll play an integral role in strengthening financial performance, developing the finance function and supporting the next phase of the organisation's growth.

This role is about much more than producing the numbers. You'll have the opportunity to:
Make a genuine impact:
Influence financial decisions and help shape how a growing business operates. Take real ownership:
Lead financial reporting, controls, budgeting and forecasting across a multi-entity environment. Get closer to the commercial picture:
Work alongside operational leaders, challenging performance, identifying opportunities and driving improvements. Develop and lead people:
Manage an established finance team, creating a positive environment focused on development, accountability and collaboration. Drive positive change:
Improve systems, streamline reporting, strengthen processes and introduce smarter ways of working. Broaden your strategic exposure:
Contribute to business planning, investment decisions, integration projects and wider growth initiatives. Reporting directly to the Group Finance Director, you'll take responsibility for the day-to-day financial management and control of the Group, ensuring the finance function delivers accurate, timely and commercially meaningful information. Your remit will encompass management accounts, group reporting, statutory compliance, audit, cash flow, working capital, budgeting and forecasting.

Alongside this, you'll take direct financial ownership of a key operating business, working closely with its management team to understand profitability, challenge performance and support better commercial decisions. You'll also play a leading role in developing the finance team and identifying opportunities to improve systems, controls and reporting. We're particularly interested in speaking with ACA, ACCA or CIMA qualified accountants who have developed a strong technical foundation and subsequently gained meaningful exposure within an SME or commercially focused business environment.

Ideally, you'll bring:
Previous experience as a Financial Controller, Group Financial Controller, Finance Manager or in a comparable senior finance role. Strong technical accounting, statutory reporting and financial control experience. Confidence managing and developing finance teams.

Experience of budgeting, forecasting and providing commercial insight to senior stakeholders. A hands-on, pragmatic approach, with the ability to operate strategically without losing sight of the detail. An appetite for improving processes, challenging existing practices and making a positive contribution to business performance.

Experience of managing multiple sites would be advantageous, although we're equally interested in individuals who have the ambition and capability to step into a broader Group role. Alongside a competitive salary and benefits package, including a company car or allowance, this opportunity offers something arguably more valuable.

The chance to become a genuinely influential member of the finance leadership team within a successful and growing business. You'll enjoy a varied role, meaningful responsibility, direct exposure to senior decision-makers and the opportunity to make a visible contribution. The position offers established flexibility, with some travel between business locations, including Wakefield and North of Nottingham. If you're a qualified accountant who enjoys the combination of financial control, commercial business partnering and…
