Join Crisp Regional Health Services as a Nurse Extern. Under the supervision of the Departmental Nursing Director and an approved Registered Nurse (RN), you will utilize the nursing process to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care, preparing for a nursing career.
Position Summary
Under the supervision of the departmental Nursing Director and an approved Registered Nurse (RN), the Nurse Extern is responsible for utilizing the nursing process in assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care to learn and better prepare for a nursing career. The Extern provides culturally sensitive care appropriate for the patient’s developmental age under direct observation and guidance of the assigned RN, interacts with patients, family, and the health team, and maintains standards of professional nursing following the guidelines listed.
Basic Qualifications
- Education:
Senior Year Registered Nursing student, Minimum GPA of 3.0 - Experience:
Must have successfully completed at least one clinical rotation. Completes CRHS New Hire Orientation and Nursing Orientation prior to clinical area assignment. - Licensure, Registrations &
Certifications:
Official or unofficial transcript from a board-approved pre‑licensure nursing program as a Senior Registered Nursing Student in good standing. Current AHA or ARC Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. At least 2 professional letters of support/recommendation.
Essential Job Responsibilities
- Assist the Registered Nurse in any job duties outlined in the unlicensed extern’s scope of practice.
- Collaborate with other members of the patient care team to discuss, evaluate, and monitor the patient.
- Consistently perform delegated nursing skills and treatments, not to exceed the scope of unlicensed nursing personnel, as prescribed by physician or indicated by the patient's condition under supervision and direct observation of the assigned RN.
- Alert nursing and medical staff to changes in the patient’s condition.
- Perform associated duties, responsibilities, and tasks related to attendance, safety, infection control, and performance improvement as part of CRHS’s quality care efforts.
- Present a professional image to CRHS’s nursing coworkers, clinical and medical staff members, patients, families, and visitors.
- Attend professional development programs and clinical reflection meetings every 6 weeks.
- Perform other related job duties as assigned.
