Registered Nurse - Full time - 7p to 7a - Vent Unit

Under the leadership of the departmental Nursing Director, the Registered Nurse (RN) I is responsible for utilizing the nursing process in assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care. The RN I provides culturally sensitive care appropriate for the patient’s developmental age, formulates nursing plans of care, and effectively interacts with patients, families, and the health team. The RN I maintains professional nursing standards, following scientific principles and established practice standards.

Qualifications
  • Education: Requires an Associate’s degree in Nursing from an accredited school of nursing
  • Experience: Requires up to one year of work‑related experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

    Certifications:

    Requires a current state license as a Registered Nurse and is listed in good standing with the state’s Department of Professional Credentialing. Requires a current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS). (If BLS verification is not current upon hire, it must be obtained within the orientation period.)

Job Responsibilities
  • Conduct a comprehensive assessment of patient’s condition (physical, emotional, age, etc.), document findings, and develop a plan of care in collaboration with medical notes.
  • Collaborate with the patient care team to evaluate, monitor, and modify the plan of care based on changes in the patient’s condition.
  • Perform basic nursing skills and treatments as prescribed by the physician or as indicated by the patient’s condition.
  • Use professional judgment to treat patients, modify treatments, and contact the physician as appropriate.
  • Prepare or direct the preparation of necessary equipment and assist the physician during examinations and treatments.
  • Demonstrate prioritization and decisiveness to complete patient assignments within an assigned shift.
  • Participate in patient and family education and rehabilitation, explaining treatments, procedures, and nursing care plans to mitigate fears and educate them during recovery.
  • Meet with patients and families to help them overcome emotional problems associated with health care conditions.
  • Make regular rounds to assigned patients, alone or with physicians, observing and evaluating symptoms and reactions to treatments and medications. Determine progress and problems and take corrective action as indicated or directed.
  • Maintain patient records and report pertinent information regarding patients’ conditions, medications, and treatments to the proper person.
  • Participate in performance improvement studies and incorporate performance improvement standards into patient care activities.
  • Participate in discharge planning activities to prepare the patient and their family for release from the hospital, acting as a liaison between members of the patient’s care team.
  • Serve as a clinical leader, implementing nursing concepts, conducting patient conferences, and assisting in directing, orienting, and teaching student nurses, nursing assistants, LPNs, and other ancillary personnel.
  • Remain current on innovations, developments, new procedures, and techniques in nursing care to provide quality nursing services.
  • Perform duties related to safety, infection control, and performance improvement as part of the organization’s efforts to provide quality care and services.
  • Present a professional image to nursing co‑workers, clinical and medical staff, patients, families, and visitors.
  • Attend professional development programs and in‑service training, meeting the minimum requirement for continuing professional education.
  • Perform other related job duties as assigned.
