College of the North Atlantic is seeking a passionate instructor for our Agriculture Technician Co‑op program. This hands‑on program prepares students for careers in modern agriculture through practical experience in sustainable farming, livestock and plant care, soil and irrigation management, agricultural technology, and farm operations.

We're looking for someone who can bring industry knowledge, innovation, and real‑world experience into the classroom while supporting student success in a growing and evolving sector.

  • Facilitate learning to students as part of the Agriculture Technician program by planning, organizing, and managing learning activities and lab/field equipment in both classroom and lab/field settings.
  • Deliver theory and practical components of all courses outlined in the Agriculture Technician program.
  • Incorporate your own teaching style to existing lesson plans while meeting the learning objectives of the course material.
  • Work with other faculty members to ensure a coordinated and consistent teaching approach to ensure the planned curriculum for each course is delivered.
  • Prepare and implement various instructional strategies, techniques, and learning modules using an approved curriculum to achieve specified learning outcomes.
  • Utilize and advocate for the use of technology to advance teaching and learning.
  • Establish student performance objectives and evaluation methods.
  • Administer various assessments.
  • Meet with students regularly to gauge and evaluate progress.
  • Set a professional example and communicate effectively at a level appropriate to the ability of students and provide an emotionally safe learning environment that is conducive to learning.
  • Maintain appropriate classroom discipline following college policies and procedures.
  • Identify and resolve problem areas in learning.
  • Provide academic advising to students.
  • Participate in professional development activities, maintain currency, and strive for excellence in instructional practices and the trade.
  • Actively participate in and contribute to accreditation activities to ensure the program is of the highest standard.
  • Other related duties consistent with providing and maintaining quality student‑centered instruction will be required.

Screening Criteria
  • Bachelor's of Science in Agriculture or equivalent degree.
  • Four years recent, relevant industry experience.
Assessment Criteria
  • Knowledge of agriculture technician concepts and best practices.
  • Knowledge of safety procedures in the agriculture industry.
  • Proficiency with technology.
  • Ability to communicate complex concepts clearly and engage students by using real‑life examples to enhance understanding.
  • Organizational and time management skills with the ability to plan, prioritize, and meet deadlines.
  • Critical thinking and problem‑solving skills with an ability to consider and respond appropriately to the needs of students.
  • Ability to build and maintain productive working relationships with other faculty and staff.
  • Ability to foster and deliver a positive student learning experience.
  • Professionalism.
Conditions of Offer
  • When requested by the Employer, a recent and satisfactory Certificate of Conduct must be provided.
  • Verification of credentials and applicable licenses, certifications, and/or professional memberships as required for the position.
  • Verification of eligibility requirements to obtain Professional Agrologist designation.
  • Credentials obtained outside of Canada will require an evaluation to determine their Canadian educational equivalency. This evaluation must support the educational requirements for the position.
Conditions of Acceptance
  • Acknowledges the requirement for participating in ongoing training and professional development, including the completion of courses required for Post‑Secondary Instructor Certification () as specified for instructors.
