Job Title
K-6 Math Program Specialist – Hiring Incentives – Location Dependent
LocationLabrador Regional Office; candidate may be located at Corner Brook or Goose Bay Regional Office.
ResponsibilitiesProvide leadership to schools and educators on all aspects of numeracy/mathematics pedagogy, programming, policy and curriculum implementation. Support learning communities and build capacity for excellence in numeracy/mathematics responsive teaching and learning practices. Work with Provincial Program Specialists, Directors of Schools, other Department of Education K‑12 divisions, educators and school administrators to enhance student engagement and learning in mathematics. Demonstrate commitment to professional learning and current research in numeracy/mathematics.
RequiredKnowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Understanding of child development and diverse learning needs of students.
Understanding of adult learners and diverse learning needs of educators.
In‑depth knowledge of mathematics pedagogy, instruction, and assessment strategies that support learning.
Extensive understanding of evidence‑based practices (assessment, responsive teaching, foundational skills, interventions) that support numeracy/mathematics development for all students and educators.
Experience collecting, analyzing, and using data to support teachers in informing instruction.
Practical knowledge of instructional mentorship and change leadership.
Strong leadership skills in evidence‑based professional learning models.
Proficiency with technology to support professional learning.
Creative and innovative in learning design and facilitation.
Excellent interpersonal, problem‑solving, and decision‑making skills.
Willingness to travel regionally and provincially.
Master’s degree in education or other acceptable specialization relevant to the duties of this position.
NL teaching certificate.
Bachelor of Education – Primary/Elementary.
Minor (6 courses) in Mathematics.
Minimum of 5 years’ experience teaching mathematics in the K‑12 school system, including experience at the K‑6 level.
Travel regionally/provincially; use of a personal vehicle is required.
Annual teacher salary scale in the NLTA Provincial Collective Agreement; benefits included in the agreement.
Incentives are prorated for part‑time or unpaid leave periods.
Travel and relocation allowances as specified in the collective agreement.
