Reporting to the Supervisor, Recreation and Events, the Summer Student, Creative Arts Program Leader position is responsible for:

  • To design and conduct a program tailored for playground leaders that guides them in the areas of Creative Arts and Theatre.
  • To coordinate performing arts activity sessions within the playgrounds and/or indoors at the Benson Centre with the assistance of the programmers and Playground Leaders.
  • To ensure compliance with leaders on weekly stationary reports and subsequently make these reports available to the Playground Coordinator for prompt attention to problems, i.e., statistics.
  • To assist the Playground Coordinator in the coordination of the Annual Playground Supershow by motivating and assisting the leaders in preparation of entries.
  • Responsible for recording an inventory of supplies for theatre and creative event activities, i.e., requisition.
  • Coordinate and assist Playground Leaders with special projects, i.e., Supershow videos.
  • Maintain records of the number of participants involved in each special event.
  • Work with the Sports and Active Games Leader to facilitate joint programming for special activities, i.e., Olympics.
  • Responsible for working with other programmers to see that each park has a basic kitbag of essential supplies ready for the opening of the season.
  • Provide information to the media on theatre and creative events activities pending approval of Supervisor, Recreation and Events.
  • Assemble information and prepare weekly special events and playground column for the website and/or social media.
  • Responsible for preparing a written evaluation of the summer program and supply to the Supervisor, Recreation and Events.
  • Plan and facilitate on-the-park creative art workshops and activities.
  • To be a representative of the City of Cornwall and always maintain outstanding public relations skills and professional image.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • Full-time day student at a recognized secondary or post-secondary institution and be returning to full time attendance the fall of 2026.
  • Enrolled in a College or University Program related to Education, Fine Arts, Education, Social Sciences, Recreation, etc.
  • Must have 1 year of experience in Summer Playground Program or similar program.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suites and Database programs.
  • Once hired applicants must successfully complete the City of Cornwall’s Playground Leader Training Program; this training program will be made available to all successful applicants at the beginning of the program.
  • Current Emergency First Aid Certificate (must obtain Emergency First Aid before the first day of employment).
  • Ability to travel to various City locations in a timely and efficient manner

Qualifications:

  • Bilingualism is considered an asset.

  • Must obtain and maintain a satisfactory VSC (Vulnerable Sector Check), at the candidate’s own expense.
  • Successful reference check (two work-related references, with a minimum of one being a direct supervisor)
  • Verification of school status
