Electrical Engineer (P.Eng.) – Building Electrical Systems

About HSPHSP Consultants Inc. is a growing multi-disciplinary engineering and environmental consulting firm providing mechanical, electrical, structural, civil, environmental, and project management services throughout Ontario. We are seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer (P.Eng.) who is technically strong, client-focused, and interested in helping grow our electrical engineering practice.
Position SummaryThe successful candidate will be responsible for the design, coordination, and delivery of building electrical systems for commercial, institutional, industrial, and residential projects. This role combines technical design, project management, client relationship management, and business development.
Key Responsibilities- Design electrical power distribution systems for buildings.
- Design lighting, lighting controls, emergency lighting, and exterior site lighting systems.
- Design and coordinate fire alarm systems in accordance with applicable codes and standards.
- Apply and interpret the Ontario Electrical Safety Code (OESC), Ontario Building Code (OBC), National Building Code of Canada (NBCC), and related standards.
- Prepare engineering drawings, specifications, reports, studies, and contract documents.
- Conduct site investigations, condition assessments, and construction reviews.
- Coordinate designs with mechanical, structural, architectural, and civil disciplines.
- Review shop drawings, RFIs, change orders, and contractor submissions.
- Provide technical mentorship to junior designers and EITs.
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining quality, budget, and schedule objectives.
- Attend project meetings and coordinate with clients, contractors, and stakeholders.
- Prepare fee proposals and assist with project planning and resource allocation.
- Monitor project financial performance and utilization.
- Develop and maintain strong client relationships.
- Identify opportunities for repeat business and new project opportunities.
- Participate in proposal preparation, fee development, and presentations.
- Represent HSP at industry events, client meetings, and networking opportunities.
- Contribute to the growth and strategic direction of the electrical engineering department.
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) licensed with Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO).
- Minimum 5 years of experience in building electrical systems design.
- Strong working knowledge of:
- Fire alarm systems and applicable standards
- Building power distribution systems
- Experience preparing electrical drawings and specifications.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational and project management abilities.
- Valid driver’s licence and willingness to travel to project sites.
- Experience with Revit.
- Experience with educational, healthcare, municipal, industrial, and commercial facilities.
- Familiarity with emergency power systems, generators, and standby power requirements.
- Existing client relationships and demonstrated business development experience.
- French language skills considered an asset.

$85,000 – $125,000 annually, based on experience, qualifications, technical expertise, project management capabilities, and demonstrated business development success.
