Position Summary

The Supervisor, Registered Nurse and Resident Care is responsible for overseeing the delivery of high-quality resident care at the Glen Stor Dun Lodge (GSDL). This role involves supervising nursing staff, ensuring compliance with clinical standards and regulatory requirements, and supporting the overall well-being of residents. The Supervisor provides leadership, mentorship, and direction to nursing staff while collaborating with interdisciplinary teams to enhance resident-centered care.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise and support registered nurses (RNs), registered practical nurses (RPNs), and Health Care Aides to ensure high standards of resident care.
  • Monitor and evaluate resident care plans, ensuring alignment with clinical best practices and individualized needs.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, regulations, policies, and other applicable healthcare standards.
  • Conduct audits, assessments, and quality checks to maintain clinical excellence and safety.
  • Provide coaching, mentorship, and performance management for staff, fostering a culture of professional growth.
  • Support infection prevention and control (IPAC) initiatives, ensuring adherence to best practices.
  • Investigate and address resident and family concerns, ensuring timely and compassionate resolution.
  • Coordinate and participate in interdisciplinary team meetings to support holistic resident care.
  • Assist with staff scheduling, ensuring appropriate staffing levels to meet resident needs.
  • Foster a positive and productive work environment by ensuring compliance with collective agreements, addressing employee concerns, resolving workplace conflicts, and collaborating with union representatives and HR to uphold fair labour practices.
  • Respond to emergencies, providing clinical guidance and ensuring appropriate follow-up.
  • Assist in the preparation and monitoring of the departmental budget, ensuring expenditures are within the allocated budget, and providing regular financial updates to management.

Leadership of Others

  • Guide and support team members to meet operational objectives, ensuring compliance with organizational standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Foster a collaborative and respectful work environment by addressing concerns, providing constructive feedback, and supporting skill development.
  • Play an active role in the recruitment process by participating in candidate screening, interviews, and hiring decisions while ensuring candidates have a positive experience.
  • Facilitate the successful onboarding of newly hired employees by delivering comprehensive training and continuous development, ensuring alignment between their role, organizational objectives, and the municipality’s culture.

Position Requirements

Education &

Certifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) from an accredited institution.
  • Valid registration in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO).
  • Valid CPR and First Aid certification.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 5 years of nursing experience, preferably with prior experience in a supervisory role.

Equivalent combination of education and experience may be acceptable.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Clinical Expertise:
    Strong knowledge of geriatric care, chronic disease management, and LTC best practices.
  • Leadership and Supervision:
    Ability to mentor, support, and oversee a team of nursing professionals.
  • Regulatory Compliance:
    Understanding of relevant legislation, regulations, MLTC standards…
