Adecco is currently hiring a Senior Chemist for a full-time permanent opportunity. This role is ideal for an experienced chemistry professional with extensive expertise in PVC plastisol formulations, polymer science, and manufacturing processes. In this position, you will lead the development and optimization of PVC plastisol formulations, support manufacturing operations through technical expertise, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure product quality, consistency, and continuous improvement.
  • Pay Rate: $100,000 - $120,000/year
  • Location: Cornwall, ON
  • Schedule: Monday to Friday | Day Shift

Responsibilities
  • Lead the development, adjustment, and optimization of PVC plastisol formulations used in casting, extrusion coating, and top coating operations.
  • Evaluate raw materials, processing conditions, formulation consistency, and finished product performance to ensure product reliability.
  • Plan, conduct, and evaluate laboratory and production trials supporting new product development and process improvements.
  • Perform laboratory testing and analyze physical and chemical properties, processing characteristics, product quality, and compliance with applicable standards.
  • Troubleshoot formulation, material, product, and manufacturing process issues in collaboration with Product Development, Process Engineering, Quality, and Manufacturing teams.
  • Support root cause investigations and implement corrective actions for production issues, product non-conformances, customer concerns, and quality deviations.
  • Maintain accurate technical documentation including formulation records, laboratory results, trial reports, technical summaries, and recommendations.
  • Provide technical expertise to manufacturing operations to improve product consistency and process efficiency.
  • Analyze test data and recommend practical solutions to formulation and production challenges.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support continuous product and process improvements.
  • Ensure compliance with quality standards, safety requirements, and manufacturing best practices.
  • Support ongoing research and development initiatives related to polymer and coating technologies.
Qualifications
  • Must be legally eligible to work and reside in Canada.
  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Polymer Science, Materials Science, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in industrial chemistry, polymer science, plastics, petrochemicals, coatings, coated fabrics, PVC plastisol formulation, flexible vinyl, or a related manufacturing environment.
  • Strong understanding of polymer chemistry, formulation principles, and material performance.
  • Experience developing and optimizing PVC plastisol formulations.
  • Knowledge of laboratory testing methods, product validation, and manufacturing processes.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot formulation and production issues.
  • Experience interpreting laboratory data and applying technical findings to manufacturing operations.
  • Knowledge of statistical analysis and data interpretation.
  • Experience with Six Sigma, root cause analysis, or continuous improvement methodologies is considered an asset.
  • Excellent attention to detail and technical documentation skills.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills with the ability to work effectively across Product Development, Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, and Research & Development teams.
  • Ability to work successfully in both laboratory and manufacturing environments.
