The Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) is responsible for delivering high-quality nursing care to residents at Glen Stor Dun Lodge (GSDL). The role involves assessing residents’ health needs, providing direct nursing care, administering medications, and supporting residents’ overall well‑being. The RPN collaborates with interdisciplinary healthcare teams, residents, and families to ensure a safe, compassionate, and resident-centered approach to care while maintaining compliance with regulatory standards and best practices.
Key Responsibilities- Provide direct nursing care to residents, including monitoring health status, administering medications, and performing treatments as per physician orders.
- Assist in developing, implementing, and evaluating individualized care plans in collaboration with the healthcare team.
- Observe and report changes in residents’ conditions, ensuring timely intervention and care adjustments.
- Promote resident safety, dignity, and independence while following infection prevention and control protocols.
- Educate residents and families on health conditions, medication management, and wellness strategies.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation of assessments, interventions, and resident responses in electronic medical records (EMRs).
- Respond to emergencies and provide immediate nursing interventions as required.
- Ensure compliance with Long-Term Care regulations, standards, and facility policies and procedures.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and ongoing professional development to enhance nursing practice.

Certifications:
Diploma in Practical Nursing from an accredited college. Valid registration in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) as a Registered Practical Nurse. Valid CPR and First Aid certification. - Experience: Minimum of 1 year as an RPN, preferably in long-term care, geriatrics, or a healthcare setting.
- Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Clinical expertise in geriatric care, chronic disease management, and palliative care.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Critical thinking to assess residents’ conditions and respond appropriately.
- Collaboration within multidisciplinary teams.
- Time management and prioritization of multiple resident care needs.
- Technical proficiency with electronic medical records (EMRs) and healthcare documentation systems.
- Compassionate, person-centered care and a respectful workplace.
- Regulatory compliance knowledge of Ontario’s LTC regulations and Ministry of Long-Term Care standards.
- Emotional resilience in demanding situations.
The position is performed at Glen Stor Dun Lodge with direct contact with residents. Shift work, including nights, weekends, and holidays, is required. Potential exposure to infectious diseases necessitates adherence to infection control protocols. Cognitive demands include high responsibility and attention to detail in a fast‑paced environment. Physical demands include standing, walking, bending, and occasional lifting of residents or equipment.
Other Requirements- Successful reference check (two work-related references, minimum one being a direct supervisor).
