The Electrical Engineer III – Distribution Design will play a key role in the design and development of sub-transmission systems, substations, switching stations, and commercial/industrial power distribution systems. This position supports expanding utility work in the Moreno Valley area and requires a well-rounded engineer with solid underground distribution design experience.
As part of a growing team, you ll work in a collaborative environment and be involved in full-cycle engineering—from concept to implementation—across utility and infrastructure projects.
Key Responsibilities- Design sub-transmission systems, substations, switching stations, and power distribution systems for commercial/industrial applications.
- Develop conceptual design alternatives, perform engineering calculations, analysis, and cost estimates for system improvement projects.
- Conduct site surveys to assess utility service requests and present design alternatives to internal teams and customers.
- Create and maintain GIS databases for large-scale electrical distribution systems.
- Support lead engineers on major capital improvement projects and infrastructure upgrades.
- Analyze electrical fault events, power quality issues, and system loads; recommend and implement corrective actions.
- Perform power system studies using ETAP or similar modeling software.
- Gain and apply knowledge in protection and relaying schemes for distribution systems.
- Collaborate with stakeholders and attend field walk-downs to determine technical requirements and constraints.
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited university (Power Systems emphasis preferred).
- 5–8 years of electrical engineering experience, with a strong background in underground distribution design.
- Demonstrated knowledge of power system analysis, modeling, and protective device coordination.
- Experience working with medium voltage substations and distribution systems.
- Proficiency in ETAP or comparable software tools for electrical modeling and system analysis.
- Strong understanding of GIS for utility applications.
- Professional Engineer (P.E.) license strongly preferred.
- Experience working on multidisciplinary or full-cycle utility projects (not limited to a single engineering niche).
- Previous work supporting municipal utilities or similar organizations.
- Familiarity with U.S. military base infrastructure (must be eligible for base access clearance).
- Valid driver’s license.
- Ability to obtain security clearance for work on military installations.
