Positions in the Code Compliance Inspector series work a rotating 4/10 schedule. A 4/10 schedule consists of a weekly work schedule of four (4) consecutive workdays of 10 consecutive hours. Weekly schedules include morning, evening, weekends, and holiday shifts.
Knowledge & Education- Code Compliance Inspector I/II:
Equivalent to completion of the twelfth (12th) grade. - Legal descriptions and boundary maps of real property and legal terminology as used in code compliance.
- Research and reporting methods, techniques, and procedures.
Code Compliance Inspector I:
This is the entry-level classification in the Code Compliance Inspector series. Initially under close supervision, incumbents learn and perform routine inspection and compliance activities required to ensure compliance with the City’s municipal code including, zoning, planning, and land use codes.
Code Compliance Inspector II:
This is the fully qualified journey-level classification in the Code Compliance Inspector series. Positions at this level are distinguished from the Code Compliance Inspector I by the performance of the full range of duties as assigned, working independently, and exercising judgment and initiative.
- Explain codes and regulations to property owners, residents, and others.
- Respond to inquiries, complaints, and requests for service in a fair, tactful, and timely manner.
- Prepare clear and concise reports, correspondence, and other written materials.
- Understand, interpret, and apply all pertinent laws, codes, regulations, policies and procedures, and standards relevant to work performed.
- Code Compliance Inspector I:
One (1) year of administrative or technical experience in the field of code compliance involving a high level of public contact and customer service. - Code Compliance Inspector II:
Three (3) years of increasingly responsible municipal code and zoning compliance experience.
- Possession of a valid California Driver’s License to be maintained throughout employment.
- Possession of, or successful acquisition within 12 months of employment, a valid California PC832 certificate, to be maintained throughout employment.
- Possession of, or successful acquisition within 12 months of employment, a valid California Association of Code Enforcement Inspectors Beginning Level Certificate, to be maintained throughout employment.
- Possession of, or successful acquisition within 12 months of employment, a valid California Association of Code Enforcement Inspectors Intermediate Level Certificate, to be maintained throughout employment.
This position is FLSA Non‑Exempt, eligible for overtime compensation.

Those applicants deemed to possess the most desirable qualifications will be invited to participate in a possible virtual Hire Vue and oral interview.
The top scoring candidates from the oral interview will be placed on an eligibility list from which the department may hire. The eligibility list established from this recruitment may also be used to fill the current and/or additional vacancies throughout the City.
