Responsibilities
Cover clinical offices based on operational need. Assist in the examination of patients under the direction of a physician or allied health professional, following M.A. scope of practice. Maintain smooth patient flow through accurate assessment, physician order review, and scheduling of tests and procedures. Serve as an intermediary between physician and patients to optimize physician time.
Hours8:30 AM – 5:30 PM
Education and Experience- High school diploma or GED required.
- One year medical group experience preferred.
- Medical Assistant Certification required.
- AHA Basic Life Support for Healthcare Professional (AHA BLS Healthcare) required.
- Cooperate in cross‑training to ensure coverage at all times.
- Collect patient data, maintain chart order, log procedures and tests, keep billing and charges current, ensure accurate tick sheets, and document patient instruction‑injections and medications.
- Prepare patients (vital signs, charting, attend to needs, prepare for minor procedures) and ensure proper consent is completed.
- Demonstrate technical skills, follow safety policies, use sterile technique for minor surgical procedures, handle instruments, and manage body fluids.
- Explain procedures to patients and families to gain cooperation and reduce apprehension.
- Prepare treatment rooms, assist physician with procedures, clean rooms, and sterilize equipment after use.
- Perform electrocardiograph (EKG), pulse oximetry, inhalation treatments, and operate other certified equipment.
- Complete documentation, ensure physician chart sign‑off, verify physician orders, and return patient charts to medical records.
- Inventory and order medical supplies and materials as needed.
- Discard expired sample medications and patient supplies upon expiration date.
- Support and practice nursing services policies and procedures.
- Function within Medical Assistant practice and Riverside Medical Clinic policies.
- Maintain current BLS certification.
- Ensure chart readiness prior to patient visit.
- Neutralize patient’s glasses and set prescription into Field Analyzer.
- Instruct patients on and administer visual field tests; record results.
- Complete charting, ensure doctor reviewed results and discuss with patient; conduct follow‑up and schedule return appointments.
- Complete patient charge tickets and enter ICD‑9 code based on physician diagnosis.
- Occasional filing and follow‑up tracking of lab and X‑ray reports.
