Summary

This is a developmental position, comprised of three (3) levels:

  • Level 1 - NF‑02 Lifeguard Trainee
    : an entry level position for those without current certifications.
  • Level 2 - NF‑02 Lifeguard
    : ensures the safety of patrons in the swimming pools, enforcing rules, regulations and providing assistance as needed.
  • Level 3 - NF‑02 Lifeguard/Water Safety Instructor (WSI): teaches swim classes, ensuring safety of students and enforcing rules and regulations.
Responsibilities
  • Level 1: Complete required lifeguard training and CPR/first aid certifications within 30 days of hire; no lifeguarding duties performed until certified.
  • Perform training and maintain certification status throughout employment.
  • Level 2: Safeguard patrons, cautions unsafe conditions, rescues or assists swimmers in danger, administers emergency first aid until qualified help arrives, enforces pool rules, maintains chemical and temperature readings, performs housekeeping duties, reports unsafe conditions, prepares daily log and performs opening/closing duties as assigned.
  • Level 3: Instructs swimming and diving skills to various age groups, maintains attendance rosters and progress reports, ensures safety at the facility, monitors activity to prevent accidents, performs chemical and temperature readings, logs tasks, opens/closes facility, provides program information, attends required training and maintains certifications.
Requirements
  • Successfully pass the E‑Verify employment verification check.
  • Meet federal suitability requirements including background investigation.
  • Work both indoors and outdoors, with irregular hours (shift, evenings, weekends, holidays).
  • Level 1:
    Obtain Lifeguard Training, CPR‑Professional, and Standard First Aid within 30 days of hire.
  • Wear protective clothing and equipment as required.
  • Be prepared to lift and carry swimmers; respond to emergencies.
Qualifications
  • Level 1 – NF‑02 Lifeguard Trainee
    • 300‑yard continuous swim (front crawl, breaststroke or combination).
    • Tread water for 2 minutes without support.
    • Swim 20 yards carrying 10‑lb object at 7–10 ft depth.
    • Within 1:40, perform surface dive, retrieve 10‑lb object from 7–10 ft, surface, and swim back while holding object.
  • Level 2 – NF‑02 Lifeguard
    • Current Lifeguard Training/CPR‑Professional and Standard First Aid certification.
    • Pass skills and written tests and swim 300 yards.
    • Recognize emergencies and apply effective response.
    • Communicate verbally and in writing.
    • Understand and apply rules, regulations, policies, procedures.
    • Maintain public relations; exercise control of patron group.
    • Teach water safety, emergency response, life support.
  • Level 3 – NF‑02 Lifeguard/WSI
    • Current Lifeguard Training/CPR‑Professional and Standard First Aid certification.
    • Pass skills and written tests and swim 500 yards; demonstrate basic strokes.
    • Recognize emergencies and apply effective response.
    • Communicate verbally and in writing.
    • Understand rules, regulations, policies, procedures.
    • Maintain public relations; exercise control of group.
    • Teach water safety, emergency response, self‑survival, life support.
    • Practice safe handling, storage, disposal of hazardous materials and biosafety; use PPE.
Education
  • Level 1: No education required.
  • Level 2: Lifeguard Training, CPR‑Professional, Standard First Aid.
  • Level 3: Lifeguard Training, CPR‑Professional, Standard First Aid, Water Safety Instructor (WSI).
