Job Summary
The concrete finisher/paver smooths and finishes surfaces of poured concrete, such as sidewalks, roads, and curbs using a variety of hand and power tools. Aligns forms for sidewalks, curbs, gutters, patch voids, and uses saws to cut expansion joints.
Essential Functions- Check the forms that hold the concrete to see that they are properly constructed.
- Set the forms that hold concrete to the desired pitch, depth, and align them.
- Spread, level, and smooth concrete using rake, shovel, hand or power trowel, hand or power screed, and float.
- Mold expansion joints and edges, using edging tools, jointers, and straightedge.
- Monitor how the wind, heat, or cold affect the curing of the concrete throughout the entire process.
- Ensure compliance of all safety procedures and policies while promoting company’s safety culture.
- Perform other duties as requested, directed, or assigned.
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- At least 2 years’ experience in highway, bridge, sewer, and road construction.
- Knowledge of materials, methods, and tools involved in construction or repair of structures for highways, bridges, sewers, and roads.
- Knowledge of arithmetic, geometry, etc.
- Knowledge of machines, tools, designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Exercise discretion and independent judgement when handling day to day information.
- Excellent time-management skills to plan, organize, and prioritize tasks and responsibilities to meet deadlines and adjust to changing priorities.
- Ability to work cooperatively across all levels delivering on commitments – results oriented.
- Ability to complete work with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Ability to work under pressure to meet department targets and deadlines.
- Ability to work non-routine hours, when necessary.
- Ability and willingness to travel as required.
- Ability to work outdoors, exposed to heat and humidity, cold and rain, and around heavy traffic areas.
- Moving about to accomplish tasks or moving from one worksite to another.
- Ability to operate job related tools.
- Constantly perform repeating motions that may include feet, leg, wrists, hands and/or fingers.
- Work that includes moving and/or lifting objects up to 50 pounds, carry at least 30 pounds and up to 150 pounds with help.
- Ability to frequently walk on uneven surfaces, including natural ground in varying weather conditions.
