Position SummaryExperienced Master Tailor who can interpret designer sketches and technical drawings into a fitting costume before the first Dress Rehearsal.
Minimum Qualifications- Advanced Tailor with a minimum of ten (10) years experience.
- Consults with Costume Designer, adapts designs for costumes, or copies existing design from research for costumes.
- Alters costumes and joins parts with existing stock and new designs, using needle and thread or sewing machine, to form finished costume.
- Draws individual patterns or alters existing pattern to fit actors measurements.
- Sews buttons and buttonholes to finish costume.
- Presses costumes using hand iron or pressing machine.
- Confers with designer to determine type of material and garment style desired.
- Positions pattern of costume parts on fabric and cuts fabric along outline using scissors.
- Adjusts costume fit after designer’s first fitting.
- Associate degree or higher.
- Experience in the theatre industry, in an educational setting, in a related field in wardrobe/makeup area in film/television, or experience in the Technical Fashion industry.
- Hands on industry professional experience is highly desired.
