Pay RangeBase pay: $280,000 – $330,000 per year.
SummaryThe Pulmonologist is responsible for patient care, patient/family education, and participation in clinical research in pulmonary medicine. The role provides comprehensive care for patients with illnesses within the scope of pulmonary medicine/sleep spectrum as covered in the privileges granted. The scope covers all phases of ambulatory care.
Qualifications- United States Citizenship (non‑citizens only if no qualified citizens can be recruited).
- Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from an approved VA school.
- Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine in a U.S. state, territory, Commonwealth or D.C.
- Completed residency in an approved core specialty training program leading to board certification (ACGME or AOA). VA physicians in academic training may need faculty board certification.
- Residents in ACGME/AOA accredited residency may be appointed as Physician Resident Providers (PRPs) on an intermittent or fee‑basis; PRPs are not independent practitioners and have a scope of practice under supervision.
- Proficiency in spoken and written English.
- Preferred:
Completion of accredited residency and fellowship training in pulmonary and sleep medicine; five years’ experience in diagnosis and treatment of patients with pulmonary or sleep conditions; board certification in Pulmonary & Sleep medicine. - Reference: Qualification Standards available at https://(Use the "Apply for this Job" box below). - Physical requirements:
moderate lifting (15‑44 lbs), moderate carrying, pulling, pushing, reaching above shoulder, use of fingers, walking, standing, kneeling for up to 3 hours; both hands required; rapid mental and muscular coordination; vision 20/20 or better; hearing functional; ability to work in low light; computer work 8‑10 hours per day; sitting 6‑8 hours per day.
- Open continuous announcement until February 18, 2026 or until positions are filled; applications referred regularly or as vacancies occur.
- Provide comprehensive patient care for pulmonary and sleep disorders, including history, physical examination, diagnostic testing, and treatment planning.
- Document care in the computerized Patient Record System (CPRS) and obtain consent for procedures.
- Educate and counsel patients and families on preventative care, medical conditions, and prescribed treatments.
- Write medical orders and prescriptions for controlled and non‑controlled substances in compliance with federal and state law.
- Respond to and complete consults for pulmonary and sleep patients, order laboratory tests, imaging, pulmonary function tests, ECGs, and other diagnostics.
- Consult with other disciplines as necessary and coordinate chronic patient management, including collaboration with prosthetics department.
- Carry out health promotion, disease prevention, education, and shared decision‑making activities.
- Participate in VISN and national level pulmonary and sleep program efforts.
- Maintain documentation, policies, protocols, and standards of practice to meet VA mandates.
- Work schedule:
Monday‑Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.

- Paid time off: 50‑55 days per year (26 days annual leave, 13 days sick leave, 11 federal holidays, up to 5 days paid absence for CME).
