Position Summary Information

The Construction Skills Instructor will provide classroom instruction, distance learning instruction, and practical shop experience to prepare students for employment in residential and commercial construction settings. Courses cover carpentry, electrical wiring, plumbing, landscaping, painting, and other general construction trades. The instructor will teach assigned courses across various times and locations, continuously advancing instructional quality through diverse teaching methods and materials tailored to students with differing backgrounds.

Responsibilities
  • Teach Continuing Education courses for the Construction Skills Training program using approved curriculum.
  • Develop and use a variety of teaching methods and materials to assist students with differing educational and experiential backgrounds.
  • Evaluate students to measure progress toward course outcomes, following College grade and grade‑appeals procedures.
  • Maintain classroom environment that promotes teaching and learning.
  • Prepare course syllabi and instructional materials, input final grades into WebDMC, and submit attendance rosters and grade sheets to the Continuing Education Department.
  • Assist with marketing programs and recruiting students.
  • Participate in department, divisional, and College meetings as necessary; support accreditation standards and College planning processes.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Five (5) years of relevant work experience.
Required Job Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
  • Ability to plan course instruction based upon approved syllabus/outlines.
  • Ability to utilize a variety of teaching styles and methods to accommodate diverse learning styles.
  • Successful experience utilizing instructional technologies, including computers, internet resources, and other media.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Ability to teach and communicate with students of varied multicultural backgrounds.
  • Successful teaching or vocational training experience.
  • Knowledge of and commitment to teaching strategies that enhance student success.
  • Knowledge of a learning community or learning college.
  • Experience teaching college‑level online courses or documented training in a college online learning management system (e.g., Blackboard, Canvas).
