The Electrical Trades Instructor is responsible for providing classroom instruction, distance learning instruction, and practical shop experience to prepare students for employment in a variety of jobs in the field of Electrical Trades. The instructor will teach courses related to the core skills used by electricians in residential and commercial settings. Topics include safety, hand/power tool use, National Electrical Code, residential and commercial wiring, electrical theory, blueprint reading, motor controls, and transformers.
Responsibilities- Teach assigned courses in a variety of times and locations in response to institutional need.
- Make continuous efforts to advance the quality of instruction, developing and using a variety of teaching methods and materials.
- Maintain appropriate professional relationships with students, colleagues and the community.
- Evaluate students to measure progress toward course outcomes within College grade and appeals procedures.
- Provide a written and accessible course syllabus that follows the Course Syllabus Guidelines.
- Maintain a classroom environment that promotes teaching and learning.
- Be available and encourage conferences with students to clarify expectations and possible improvements.
- Assist with marketing programs and recruiting students.
- Review, evaluate, and revise assessments of program and institutional learning outcomes to implement systemic improvement.
- Accept special assignments occasionally and participate in department, divisional, and College meetings as needed.
- Fulfill professional assignments in accordance with the College calendar.
- Participate in activities required to maintain program and College accreditation standards.
- Assist in the College planning process by contributing to goals, objectives and budget priorities.
- Engage in community activities that promote the mission of the College.
- Teach NCCER Electrical program courses.
- Develop NCCER Electrical trades curriculum and course content.
- Assist in maintaining NCCER program compliance activities.
- Procure, maintain, inspect, and operate equipment and supplies necessary for program instruction.
- Minimum Qualifications:
- Associate’s Degree in the discipline and three (3) years industry‑related work experience; OR
- High school diploma or GED equivalent and ten (10) years industry‑related work experience.
- Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
- Ability to plan course instruction based upon approved syllabus to meet objectives.
- Ability to utilize a variety of teaching styles and methods for diverse learning styles.
- Experience utilizing instructional technologies (computers, internet, media).
- Preferred Qualifications:
- Ability to teach and communicate with students from varied multicultural backgrounds.
- Successful teaching or vocational training experience.
- Knowledge of teaching strategies and methods enhancing student success.
- Familiarity with learning colleges or communities.
- Experience teaching college‑level online courses or documented successful training in an LMS (e.g., Blackboard, Canvas).
- Industry‑related Certifications such as a Master Electrician License, State of Texas.
