Position Summary

Teach Art History and Art Appreciation courses face‑to‑face or online. Typical load per regular semester: 5 lecture classes. The College seeks a full‑time, tenure‑track faculty member in Art History. The ideal candidate will share the College’s commitment to educating a racially and socioeconomically diverse student population.

Responsibilities
  • Fully engage in the work of the Art Program including teaching 5 lecture art courses per long semester, student advising, recruiting, fundraising, course assessment, gallery operations, curriculum development, community outreach, Art Program development, Art Program Review, and NASAD Accreditation self‑study writing, Student Art Association projects.
  • Teach both face‑to‑face and online art classes as assigned, including Art Appreciation, Art History I, and Art History II.
  • Unify the Art Appreciation, Art History I, and Art History II Curriculum using Open Educational Resources (OER).
  • Evaluate students to measure their progress toward achievement of stated course outcomes within the College grade and grade appeals procedures.
  • Review, evaluate, recommend, and effectively use student learning materials.
  • Provide students with a written and accessible course syllabus that follows the Course Syllabus Guidelines and facilitates a clear understanding between student and instructor of the content, goals, requirements, expectations, evaluation methods and schedule of work.
  • Maintain a classroom environment that promotes teaching and learning.
  • Hold scheduled, posted virtual or physical office hours of at least one (1) hour daily and be available for and encourage conferences with students.
  • Assist in academic advising of declared majors, assist in the work of the Student Art Association, Kappa‑Pi chapter Eta Omicron, NASAD self‑study work, Art Program Review work, studio repair, upgrading, curricular development, and other specific assignments.
  • Assist with marketing programs and recruiting students.
  • Lead the development, assessment, and analysis of student learning outcomes in Art History and Art Appreciation.
  • Develop course materials and technology that will enhance Art History and Art Appreciation offerings.
  • Consult with students during regularly scheduled office hours and utilize CANVAS to support students beyond the classroom.
  • Review, evaluate, and revise assessments of program and institutional student learning outcomes and program practices to bring about action plans devised to implement systemic improvement in programs and assure compliance with professional standards, state‑mandated guidelines, and requirements of business/industry, higher education, and NASAD standards.
  • Collaborate in department planning, program review, and integration of courses into guided pathways, and NASAD self‑study work.
  • Participate in the self‑evaluation process.
  • Establish goals and objectives which may include personal and professional development plans in consultation with the Department Chair.
  • Maintain professional standards of competence in the discipline and teaching methodology through professional development/engagement activities.
  • Maintain expertise in current teaching and discipline technologies, pedagogy, and high impact practices.
  • Serve on committees.
  • Accept special assignments occasionally.
  • Participate in scheduled institutional activities including convocation and graduation ceremonies.
  • Participate in department, divisional, and College meetings.
  • Participate in College‑related activities such as registration and selection of faculty.
  • Participate in activities required to maintain program NASAD and College accreditation standards.
  • Participate in the College planning process by assisting in the formulation of goals and objectives and budget priorities.
  • Meet professional assignments in accordance with the College calendar.
