Flint Hills Resources (FHR) Project Capability based at our Corpus Christi, TX site is looking for an Instrument and Controls (I&C) Design Engineer who is entrepreneurial minded and will leverage their capabilities to contribute to advancing projects and capturing business improvements.

Instrument and Controls (I&C) Engineering resources are critical to efficiently engineer, install, commission, and integrate new technology to achieve this vision. Through the project life of engineering to procurement to construction to integration and commissioning, the I&C engineer is the technical resource for the FHR Project Capability to engineer and cost effectively integrate technology solutions to deliver the project objectives.
We are an integrated Project Capability group leveraging experienced engineering, cost, scheduling, construction, and turnaround teams to deliver highly competitive projects in support of the business.
FHR promotes a balanced work environment on a 9/80 work schedule that is mutually beneficial to FHR and the employee. Travel to equipment testing and conferences is anticipated around 10-20%.
What You Will Do- Apply broad expertise in instrumentation and controls design, acceptance testing, field installation, commissioning, and troubleshooting.
- Leverage personal experience and FHR/industry networks to identify technical requirements for deploying new technology.
- Coordinate technology selection and collaborate with project teams to ensure fit-for-purpose design and installation.
- Oversee and approve engineering contractor deliverables for engineering and procurement.
- Actively engage with engineering contractors to resolve design issues and answer development questions.
- Participate in and support Factory Acceptance Testing and site-based Acceptance Testing.
- Contribute to construction quality planning and commissioning processes, focusing on mechanical integrity and commissioning assurance for pre-start-up safety review sign-off.
- Proactively identify, prevent, and mitigate project risks.
- 5+ years experience in instrument and / or controls engineering, may be project or industrial support (selection, design, planning, and implementation).
- Experience working in a continuous petrochemical process manufacturing environment where responsibilities involved Operations, Maintenance or Engineering.
- Legal authorization to work permanently in the United States for any employer without visa sponsorship.
- Bachelor's degree in engineering.
- Experience supporting projects (selection, design, planning, and/or implementation).
- Work experience utilizing a phased/gated project execution model.
- Working knowledge of Emerson Delta V DCS platform.
- Working knowledge of various PLC platforms.
- Working knowledge of various network data connectivity protocols.
- Experience in evaluating new technology for application in a petrochemical facility.
This role is subject to the Transportation Workers Identification Credentialing rule or "TWIC" and will require the successful candidate to obtain a TWIC identification badge, allowing for unescorted access to the facility within a specific time period.
