Job Overview
Sr Electrical Test Technician role at Saber Power Services, LLC (SPS), located in Houston, TX. The position involves testing, maintenance, and start-ups of high voltage substations, with duties performed in Corpus Christi, TX.
Education and/or Work Experience- AAS in Electrical or Electronics Technology, BSEE, BSEET or equivalent experience in the high voltage industry
- 4+ years’ experience in the high voltage industry
- Power DB knowledge a plus
- Valid driver’s license
- Word processing, spreadsheet and e-mail software
- Mathematics, including algebra and trigonometry
- Broad knowledge of electrical AC/DC fundamentals
- Broad knowledge of the major components of a substation
- Broad knowledge of control and protection systems
- Knowledge of high-voltage electric field theory
- Broad knowledge of electrical code and standards (NEC, NESC, and applicable IEEE and ANSI)
- Broad knowledge of civil / structural codes and standards (NESC, and applicable IEEE, ANSI, AISC and ACI)
- Broad knowledge of the function of major electrical equipment
- Broad knowledge of ground grid theory and design
- Effective oral and written communications
- Knowledge of the types of drawings required to construct an electrical substation
- Knowledge of drafting standards
- Working in a team environment
- Communicating effectively with co-workers
- Ability to travel 50% required
- Perform electrical testing services on power apparatus, substations, and switch gear, including:
- Protective relaying and relaying systems
- Circuit Breakers
- Power Transformers
- Current and Potential Transformers
- Meters, Transducers, and Power system metering
- Power Cables
- Grounding Systems
- Motors and Motor Starters
- Station Batteries and Chargers
- Alarm systems and Annunciators
- Personal Protective Equipment
- Perform troubleshooting and problem identification and analysis; make recommendations regarding corrective action and/or repairs
- Generate technical reports detailing services provided, problems found, and corrective action taken or recommended
- Represent the company professionally when communicating and interfacing with clients
- Communicate effectively with the management team on project status and scheduling of manpower and equipment
- Maintain safety as a top priority
- Develop and track all drawings required for the construction of an electrical substation
- Oversee project-specific activities of the project team
- Mark up drawings for submission to Engineering
- Perform calculations for the design of civil / structural components
- Learn and use task-specific software
- Learn and properly use the document management system
- Learn and apply corporate standard engineering practices
- Keep project schedule up to date
- Take personal responsibility for the quality and accuracy of work
- Bring potential project-related problems and possible solutions to the attention of the responsible party
- Other duties as required
