The Speech Therapist provides high‑quality, patient‑centered care by developing and conducting individualized therapy programs for patients with communication, cognitive, and/or swallowing impairments. As a member of the health care team, the Speech Therapist performs comprehensive patient assessments, establishes appropriate treatment goals, and serves as an educator to patients, families, students and colleagues.
What you will do in this role- Conduct a subjective assessment of assigned patient’s speech language abilities during spontaneous conversation.
- Administer objective tests to assess patient communication assets and liabilities.
- Structure and implement an individualized patient program to improve communication abilities.
- Evaluate patient progress regularly during treatment and adjust the program as needed to maximize progress.
- Document progress and complete notes, charges, discharge notes and patient communication in the patient chart.
- Consult with the Program Director and Rehab Physician/Medical Director regarding pre‑screen assessments and physician consultations to determine appropriate placement of potential patients.
- Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date.
- Licensed as a Speech Pathologist in the State of Texas.
- Master’s Degree from an accredited Speech Therapy program.
- Minimum of 2 years experience as an SLP in an inpatient rehabilitation setting preferred; post CF required.
- Experience with swallow and cognitive assessment and treatment preferred.
- Shift requirements as needed; availability to work 1 weekend a month preferred.
