As a Lead Surgical Technologist at HCA Healthcare, you’ll take on a vital leadership role in the OR, guiding your team and ensuring patients receive the safest, most advanced surgical care. Working alongside a highly experienced, collaborative surgical team, you’ll bring order, precision, and confidence to the operating room. Whatyou will do in this role:
- Demonstrate knowledge of applying surgical gloves using aseptic technique and maintaining a sterile field.
- Demonstrate knowledge of preparing for surgery by “pulling” the appropriate supplies and instruments for the procedure.
- Understand and recognize the different surgical instruments and their applications.
- Display appropriate knowledge of Anatomy and Physiology to prepare and assist in surgical procedures.
- Maintain a safe sterile field by: positioning sharps correctly; labeling all medications on sterile field; understanding electrocautery and other devices that generate heat to prevent possible fires in the OR; participating in a “timeout” with the rest of the surgical team to maintain patient safety.
- Demonstrate ability to appropriately set up for a surgical procedure and follow protocol in the counting of supplies/instruments to ensure no foreign object is left inside of the patient.
- Understand the principles of and can competently assist a surgeon during a procedure and possess adequate knowledge of the procedure itself.
- Display the ability to differentiate sutures and their applications.
- Demonstrate the ability to close a surgical site (under physician supervision) with appropriate suture.
- Demonstrate a teamwork approach in the care of a patient during the perioperative phase.
- Graduate of a Surgical Technology program or military equivalent training in the Surgical Technologist role is required.
- Certification in Surgical Technology or verifiable Surgical Tech experience prior to 9/1/2009 is required.
- Current BCLS certification from the American Heart Association required.
- 1 year of Surgical Technologist experience is preferred.
- High School Graduate / GED.
