Overview

CALALLEN INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Title: Computer Technician

Exemption Status/Test: Nonexempt

Reports to: Director of Technology

Dept./School: Technology

Number of Days: 240 days

Primary Purpose

Perform on-site technical work to install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair district computers, software, peripherals, network hardware, VoIP phones, video conferencing systems, access control systems, and video surveillance systems. Provide technical support and train users on basic technology equipment operations and software applications. Perform other technology department duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education/Certification:

High school diploma or GED

Preferred
- Associate’s degree in a Technology

Clear and valid Texas driver’s license

Special Knowledge/

Skills:

Knowledge of computer workstation setup, computer hardware, software applications, computer imaging, and basic network infrastructure.

Ability to install, maintain, and repair computers and peripherals, including printers, scanners.

Ability to install and maintain network cables and hardware.

Ability to diagnose computer hardware and network problems and perform repairs.

Experience:

Two-year work experience installing, maintaining, and repairing computers and peripherals in a network environment.

Major Responsibilities and Duties
  • Install computer hardware, peripheral, network hardware, VoIP phones, video conferencing equipment, sound system equipment, access control equipment, video surveillance equipment, and application software for the purpose of maintaining safe and effective district and campus operation including classrooms, offices, libraries and computer labs.
  • Troubleshoot malfunctions of computer hardware, peripheral, network hardware, VoIP phones, video conferencing equipment, sound system equipment, access control equipment, video surveillance equipment, and application software for the purpose of determining appropriate actions to repair or maintain computer, network, and system operations.
  • Repair computer hardware, peripheral, network hardware, VoIP phones, video conferencing equipment, sound system equipment, access control equipment, video surveillance equipment, and application software or the purpose of maintaining the equipment in a safe and functional operating condition.
  • Upgrade computers, peripherals, network equipment, video conferencing equipment, video surveillance equipment and software applications for the purpose of meeting the district technology requirements.
  • Relocate computer hardware, peripheral, network hardware, VoIP phones, video conferencing equipment, and video surveillance equipment.
  • Complete technology work orders as assigned.
  • Install, repair and test network cabling.
  • Assist with the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of data communications circuits and equipment.
Safety
  • Operate tools and equipment according to prescribed safety procedures.
  • Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties, including lifting climbing and carrying.
  • Correct unsafe conditions in the work area and report any conditions that are not correctable.
Other
  • Adhere to district and technology policies and procedures.
  • Maintain good working relationships with campus administrators, teachers, and other Technology staff.
  • Assists in researching specifications and recommend computer related purchases to management.
  • Ensure the accurate and complete logging of required information into the technology inventory system.
  • Prepare written materials such as work order reports, and equipment inventory audit reports for the purpose of providing written support and/or conveying information to management personnel.
  • Attend meetings as assigned for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information to perform functions.
  • Maintain an appropriate level of proficiency through ongoing personal staff development through courses, magazines, group meetings, webinars and other available resources.
  • Respond to after-hours emergencies as needed.
Equipment Used

Hand tools and test instruments for electronic repairs and cable installations. Personal computers and peripherals, including modems and printers.
