• Under moderate supervision, perform professional grooming services including bathing, drying, brushing, haircuts and styling, nail trimming, ear cleaning, and gland cleaning in accordance with pet‑parent instructions and company policies.
• Operate and maintain grooming instruments such as clippers, blades, shears, brushes, and dryers.
• Prioritize the safety and well‑being of every pet; monitor for discomfort or health concerns and report promptly to pet owners and management.
• Evaluate each pet’s needs, considering coat type, skin conditions, and temperament, to recommend proper care.
• Interact professionally with pet parents, provide outstanding customer service, answer inquiries, give grooming recommendations, and resolve issues.
• Educate pet parents on at‑home grooming practices and products that promote overall pet wellness.
• Maintain a clean and safe grooming area; disinfect and sanitize tools, perform daily and weekly cleaning tasks in accordance with Petco hygiene and sanitation policies.
• Apply knowledge of Petco’s grooming policies, standards, and guidelines to ensure safety, quality, and consistency across the salon.
• Support and supervise entry‑level trainees in the absence of the Grooming Salon Leader.

• Completion of the Pet Stylist Apprentice program with Petco, or prior experience as a professional groomer, or completion of a technical grooming training program.
• High‑school diploma or GED preferred (not required).
• Ability to use independent judgement and problem‑solving skills to handle routine to moderately complex situations.
• Results‑driven with a commitment to productivity, performance, and ownership of the role.
• Strong attention to detail and a passion for delivering the highest grooming standards.
• Genuine passion for animals and a desire to build a career in pet grooming.
• Expert knowledge of dog breeds, grooming requirements, common health issues, and behaviours.
• Proficiency in breed‑specific cuts, styling techniques, and grooming standards.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills for interacting with pet parents and team members.
• Capability to handle pets of all sizes and temperaments with care and empathy.
• Availability to work weekends, evenings, and holidays as required by the grooming schedule.

The majority of duties occur indoors in the grooming salon and require bending, kneeling, lifting (up to 30 lb), and prolonged standing. Tasks may involve exposure to heights and use of a two‑step ladder or vacuum for cleaning. The environment can be noisy and wet.
