Summary

This position is accountable for supporting field operations at marine locations for Russell Marine, LLC. Employees operate a variety of equipment and trucks in the construction or repair of marine terminals and dock facilities. They work closely with the Foreman, Pile Drivers, Welders, Laborers, and other skilled or semi-skilled craft workers.

Works as assigned by the Lead Mechanic to ensure equipment maintenance and repairs are completed. Diagnoses, adjusts, repairs, or overhauls mobile mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic equipment, such as cranes, bulldozers, graders, and conveyors used in heavy civil marine construction.

Responsibilities
  • Performs a variety of tasks involving strenuous manual labor in heavy construction projects.
  • Tests mechanical products and equipment after repair or assembly to ensure proper performance and compliance with manufacturer’s specifications.
  • Repair and replace damaged or worn parts.
  • Operate and inspect machines or heavy equipment to diagnose defects.
  • Diagnose faults or malfunctions to determine repairs, using engine diagnostic equipment and calibration devices.
  • Clean, lubricate, and perform other routine maintenance on equipment and vehicles.
  • Examine parts for damage or excessive wear using micrometers and gauges.
  • Schedule maintenance for industrial machines and equipment, and keep service records.
  • Read and understand operating and technical drawings.
  • Overhaul and test machines or equipment to ensure operating efficiency.
  • Assemble gear systems and align frames and gears.
  • Fit bearings to adjust, repair, or overhaul mobile mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic equipment.
  • Clean parts by using grease solvents or immersion cleaners.
  • Adjust, maintain, and repair or replace subassemblies such as transmissions and crawler heads.
  • Maintain industrial machinery using appropriate control and regulating devices.
  • Participate in Safety and Environmental initiatives to ensure compliance with regulations and company programs.
  • Maintain personal safety and the safety of others; stop work if unsafe conditions are observed and alert foreman, safety director, or HR.
  • Comply with company safety responsibilities and maintain a safe workplace.
  • Regular attendance and punctuality required.
  • Understand and comply with at-will employment status.
Qualifications and Education
  • Experience:

    At least 3 years of heavy equipment and/or crane maintenance and repair experience is required.
  • TWIC:
    Preferred (must be able to obtain if hired).
  • Industry experience:
    Marine, railroad, or construction experience is preferred, but not required.
  • Education:

    High school diploma or equivalent.

Physical/Mental Requirements
  • Must be able to perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Work environment includes exposure to moving parts, outdoor weather, and varying temperatures.
  • Use of PPE required (hard hat, safety glasses, reflective vest, respirators where needed, ear protection, steel-toed boots, PFDs, etc.).
  • Mobility and strength requirements include walking, climbing, standing for long periods, repetitive movements, and lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • Specific vision abilities: close, distance, peripheral, depth perception, and color or focus adjustment; 20/20 vision with or without corrective lenses.
