We are seeking a highly motivated Shift Engineer to support the critical operations of a modern data centre environment. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring maximum uptime, reliability, and operational efficiency of all critical infrastructure systems including electrical, mechanical, HVAC, fire suppression, and building management systems.
This role operates on a rotating shift pattern and is ideal for candidates with experience in mission-critical facilities, industrial maintenance, or data centre operations.
Key Responsibilities- Monitor, operate, and maintain critical data centre infrastructure systems.
- Perform planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance on electrical and mechanical equipment.
- Respond to alarms, incidents, and system failures within SLA timelines.
- Conduct routine inspections of UPS systems, generators, switch gear, CRAC/CRAH units, chillers, and fire systems.
- Support vendor management and supervise third-party contractors during maintenance activities.
- Ensure all maintenance activities comply with health & safety regulations and operational procedures.
- Maintain accurate logs, reports, and shift handover documentation.
- Participate in emergency response and incident management procedures.
- Assist with energy efficiency and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Ensure uptime and reliability targets are consistently achieved.
- Experience in data centre operations, facilities maintenance, or critical environments.
- Strong understanding of electrical and/or mechanical systems.
- Knowledge of UPS, generators, HVAC, BMS, and power distribution systems.
- Ability to troubleshoot faults under pressure in a live operational environment.
- Familiarity with CMMS systems and maintenance reporting tools.
Strong communication and teamwork skills. - Ability to work rotating shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- HNC/HND, NVQ, Diploma, or Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering.
- Data centre or critical environment certifications are advantageous.
- IOSH/NEBOSH or equivalent health & safety certification preferred.
- Experience working in Tier III or Tier IV data centres is a plus.
