The City of Corsicana is seeking an experienced Mechanic Assistant to perform skilled mechanical work on a variety of gasoline and diesel-powered vehicles and equipment. This position is responsible for diagnosing issues, completing repairs, and maintaining a preventative maintenance program for City vehicles and mechanical equipment.

• Diagnose mechanical problems on City vehicles and equipment
• Perform skilled repairs on engines, transmissions, brakes, steering components, and other systems
• Order and acquire parts and materials for repairs
• Operate trucks up to 2½-ton capacity within yard or shop area
• Perform cleaning and detailing of equipment using power washers and other tools
• Document maintenance and repair activities accurately
• Follow all safety regulations and procedures

• Ability to bend, kneel, crawl, twist, and raise arms for prolonged periods
• Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, and work in confined spaces
• Must be able to lift, carry, and push/pull up to 100 lbs
• Frequent use of hand tools, air tools, power tools, and small parts
• Ability to climb on and under vehicles for inspection and service
• Exposure to inclement weather, dust, grease, fumes, and loud noise
• Occasional evening, weekend, and holiday work may be required

• High School Diploma or GED required
• Strong mechanical knowledge of engines, transmissions, and vehicle systems
• Experience with diagnostic tools and mechanical servicing techniques preferred
• Knowledge of current vehicle models and servicing methods
• Must have and maintain a valid Texas Driver’s License and clean driving record

• Pass a criminal history check, background investigation, work fitness physical, and drug screen
• Maintain a valid Texas driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record
• Demonstrate punctuality and regular attendance
• Successfully complete a one-year probationary period
