Qualifications
  • Must have a satisfactory work record.
  • Must successfully pass the following Tri-State tests:
  • Transmission “Lineman Qualification” Test with a 75% or better score.
  • Transmission Lineman “Wood Pole and Steel Structure Climbing” Practical (hands-on) Test with a 75% or better score.
  • Requires an Associate of Applied Science degree in Electrical Engineering Technology or certificate of completion from an accredited Line Worker Program, or the equivalent combination of education and experience in electrical transmission maintenance (must include work on transmission structures, aerial conductors/insulating assemblies, and equipment usage such as climbing tools, man lifts, hot sticks, etc.).
  • Valid Colorado Class ‘A’ Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with no Air Brake Restrictions, to be obtained/maintained within 6 months.
  • First Aid and CPR Certification to be obtained/maintained within 6 months of hire and ability to perform First Aid and CPR.
  • Willingness to work in and around high voltages common to the electrical utility industry.
  • Willingness to accept overnight travel up to 75% of working time.
  • Residence within 60 minutes’ response time from regular reporting location.
  • Willingness and ability to work extra and irregular hours as needed, and to work under unusual or special conditions (storms, extreme temperatures, winds, darkness, etc.).
  • Knowledge and skill in the safe use of basic hand tools, power tools, and hot line tools.
  • Ability to climb steel or wooden structures and work at various heights.
  • Willingness to ride in a helicopter or fixed-wing aircraft for Line Inspections.
Education and Experience Details
  • Internal Bidder - The Transmission Joint Review Board (TJRB) may grant credit towards the term of apprenticeship for prior skills or knowledge; steps are determined by TJRB with documentation submission within 30 days of the start date.
  • External Applicant - Management will review education and experience to determine credit/step placement in the apprenticeship program.
