Position Summary
This recruitment will be used to fill one (1) part-time (a maximum of 24 hours per week) Student Assistant Manager for the Craft Center at Oregon State University (OSU). The OSU Craft Center is a warm & welcoming place that supports and promotes creative endeavors in the arts by providing a dynamic environment, resources and programs in which people can foster their own creativity.
The Craft Center provides a space for students to socialize, unwind, think creatively and learn in a noncompetitive environment. It also gives support to other departments by providing programs, space and equipment as needed.
The OSU Craft Center is hiring a Student Assistant Manager, a position that only comes up every few years. We are hiring a self-motivated, detail-orientated and energetic individual. The core of this position is one of leadership and helps to keep the Craft Center a positive workplace that helps students grow.
Expectation to be available to communicate, problem solve, and fill shift gaps as needed. Note that while this position is flexible, that may include hours beyond 9-5.
* This position will have a long training period, as many of these responsibilities may be new to you.
- Maintain a clear line of communication between professional and student staff.
- Assist in facilitating staff meetings and training.
- Assist in the hiring and training of Front Desk staff.
- Develop both regular term and special event staff schedules. Be available for covering necessary shifts.
- Plan and complete locker clean outs including organizing the team, communicating with members, completing clean outs, and maintaining records.
- Monitor and manage email, phone, and Front Desk shift calendar.
- Must be able to work during special events outside of schedule to coordinate and guide staff (2-3 weekends and/or nights each term).
- Maintain a clean work environment through coordination of the Front Desk staff. This includes your own responsibility to lead by example.
- Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study.
- Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment.
- Must meet the applicable minimal enrollment standard
- High School student:
Regularly enrolled in a high school or participating in a home‑schooling program. - Undergraduate and post‑baccalaureate student: 6 credit hours per term.
- Undergraduate international student: 12 credit hours per term.
- Graduate student officially admitted to Graduate School: 5 credit hours per term.
- Graduate international student officially admitted to Graduate School: 9 credit hours per term.
- High School student:
Required Qualifications
- Must be in Corvallis and able to work Summer 2026, throughout the academic year, and a few scheduled days during breaks between terms.
- Must possess strong skills in the following areas: problem‑solving, attention to detail, time management, and strong communication skills: both written and verbal.
- Good academic standing.
- Current class standing with 2+ years left at OSU.
- Office or business‑related experience and leadership experience is a plus.
- Retail management experience is a plus.
