Job Location:

Corvallis campus, OSU (hybrid/remote option available).

Job Summary

The Department of Horticulture seeks a combined Instructor/Senior Instructor I and Educational Program Coordinator. The incumbent will hold two appointments: a 0.60 FTE Instructor position and a 0.40 FTE Coordinator, both 12‑month professional faculty positions. The role involves academic instruction, curriculum development, and administrative outreach in Entomology.

Key Responsibilities Instruction (55%)
  • Develop curriculum and provide instruction for 3–4 Entomology courses (new and existing), including ENT 311 (Introduction to Insect Pest Management), ENT 444/544 (Insect Agroecology), ENT 518 (Current Topics in Entomology), and other materials.
  • Deliver courses both in‑person and online (Ecampus) for undergraduate and graduate programs.
  • Revise the Entomology minor curriculum and develop new core courses for lower and upper division levels.
  • Provide mentoring and opportunities for students from underrepresented groups and promote equitable outcomes.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to diversity and inclusion in all teaching activities.
Program Coordinator for the Entomology Minor (40%)
  • Steward the undergraduate Entomology minor and graduate Entomology option, including program assessments.
  • Act as convener of Entomology faculty, host quarterly/biannual meetings, and coordinate outreach and recruitment activities.
  • Coordinate internship opportunities, provide oversight, and grade internship reports.
  • Advise and mentor students in the Entomology minor and Undergraduate Bug Club.
  • Establish and enhance collaborations with community colleges, high schools, and industry partners.
  • Collaborate with academic advisors on recruitment plans to increase enrollment.
Service (5%)
  • Participate in departmental and college governance, professional activities, and university committees as time and aptitude allow.
  • Serve as advisor of the undergraduate Entomology "Bug" Club.
What You Will Need

Minimum Qualifications (Instructor/Sr Instructor I)
  • MS in Entomology or a closely related field (e.g., Zoology, Biology, etc.).
  • Demonstrable teaching, organizational, and independent teamwork skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication; proficiency with electronic information delivery.
  • A demonstrable commitment to fostering an inclusive learning environment and equalizing student success for diverse audiences.
Additional

Minimum Qualifications for Senior Instructor I
  • Four years of professional teaching experience at the college or university level.
  • Sustained record of exceptional teaching performance.
