Position Summary

This recruitment will be used to fill two (2) part‑time (a maximum of 24 hours per week) FEWS Watershed Science Technician positions for the Forest Ecohydrology and Watershed Science (FEWS) laboratory at Oregon State University (OSU).

The Forest Ecohydrology and Watershed Science (FEWS) laboratory ((Use the "Apply for this Job" box below).) in the College of Forestry at Oregon State University is hiring multiple Watershed Science Technician positions to assist with a range of research projects evaluating the effects of wildfire on watersheds and water quality. Technicians will gain valuable experience in a range of field and laboratory methods for physical, chemical, and biological water quality monitoring.

Primary responsibilities will consist of maintaining and offloading data from hydrometric equipment and sensors; collecting and processing water samples for sediment, nutrients, and carbon; and providing logistical research project support to prepare for and maintain high‑quality data collection.

During the academic year technicians will work an average of 10 hours per week (minimum of 5, maximum of 20), depending on interest and availability. This position may require occasional weekend work.

Position Duties

Field work may entail long days working outside, carrying heavy equipment, wading through swift water, hiking through recently burned forests, exposure to challenging weather conditions, and travel to field sites across the Pacific Northwest.

Lab responsibilities will entail processing and analyzing water samples collected from the field, such as analysis of dissolved organic matter from water samples on technical laboratory equipment. Lab work may entail repetitive processes and work with hazardous chemicals.

Field work will be conducted as day trips from Corvallis with the potential for overnight stays near field locations. The position will also include assistance with data entry and data quality assurance and quality control. The position may offer a variety of certification opportunities, such as first aid training, CPR certification, and wildland firefighting (red card) training.
