Job SummaryThe Product Developer for Men’s Headwear & Tops is responsible for managing the product development process from concept through pre-production. This role partners closely with Design, Merchandising & Production to ensure all products meet Volcom’s aesthetic, performance, cost, and delivery standards. The ideal candidate has a strong understanding of men’s apparel and headwear construction, materials, and manufacturing, with a passion for action sports and lifestyle fashion.
Responsibilities- Manage the end-to-end product development process for men’s headwear and tops categories, from initial design handoff to bulk production
- Collaborate with Design and Merchandising to interpret seasonal concepts, silhouettes, fabrics, trims, and performance requirements
- Create and maintain PLM system, BOMs, fabric development and both print/color standards
- Work closely with global sourcing partners and factories to develop prototypes, review samples, and ensure quality, fit, and brand standards
- Track development calendars, milestones, and sample approvals to ensure on-time delivery
- Negotiate costing to support margin goals
- Attend fit sessions, review/ send comments, and ensure consistency across styles and categories
- Ensure all products meet Volcom’s quality and compliance standards
- Resolve development and production issues in a timely, solution-oriented manner
- Stay informed on fabric innovations, trims, construction techniques, and market trends relevant to headwear and tops
- 3–5+ years of product development experience in men’s apparel; headwear experience strongly preferred
- Strong knowledge of men’s tops (knits and wovens) and headwear construction, materials, and fit
- Experience working with overseas factories and vendors
- Proficiency in PLM systems, Microsoft Excel, and Adobe Illustrator preferred
- Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to manage multiple styles and seasons
- Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate cross-functionally
- Detail-oriented with strong problem-solving abilities
- Passion for surf, skate, snow, and action sports culture
- Understanding of lifestyle branding and consumer expectations
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, creative environment
