Position OverviewPart‑time, temporary faculty teaching stage makeup and technical theater for adult students.
Responsibilities- Provide quality instruction in accordance with established curriculum and course outlines.
- Create and maintain a learning environment that encourages discussion of ideas and issues.
- Maintain appropriate professional conduct and ethics.
- Maintain current subject matter knowledge.
- Teach all scheduled classes.
- Maintain accurate records.
- Assignments may include day, evening, weekend, online or off‑campus classes.
- Develop and deliver instruction on stage makeup techniques (two‑dimensional art, color theory, chiaroscuro, anatomy of the head, corrective and character makeup, fantasy makeup, design, materials, prosthetics).
- Assess students through assignments such as character charts, descriptive reports, production reviews and written exams on makeup procedures.
- May be requested to provide costume or makeup design services on a show‑by‑show basis as an independent contractor.
- Valid California Community College instructor credential issued prior to July 1 1990.
- Master’s degree or MFA in drama, theater arts, or performance from an accredited institution.
- Bachelor’s or BFA in drama, theater, or performance plus a Master’s in comparative literature, English, communication studies, speech, literature, or humanities.
- Or a combination of education and experience equivalent to the above; submit an Application for Equivalency.
- Evidence of sensitivity to and understanding of diverse student populations.
- Recent community college or lower‑division teaching experience.
- Expertise and professional experience in course content.
- Successful coursework in theater arts with an emphasis in makeup design/technical theater.
- Practical experience in theater arts at the professional or college level.
- Documented experience teaching college‑level theater courses.
- Involvement with professional theater or dance communities.
- Commitment to quality teaching, student motivation, and academic excellence.
- Broad knowledge of the academic area and ability to design curriculum for varied learning levels.
- Ability to work with diverse populations.
- Knowledge of current instructional technologies.
- Innovative, ethical, enthusiastic, and collaborative.
Part‑time, temporary basis. Hours and start date will be arranged with a supervisor. Candidates will be entered into a continuous recruitment pool for one year and may be contacted for interviews on an as‑needed basis.
- Regular attendance is essential; failure to meet attendance may affect job retention.
- Position holder is a mandated reporter under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and must comply with district policies and Title IX.

Based on Lecture Hour Equivalent (LHE) in accordance with the current Part‑time Faculty Salary Schedule.
