Student Assistant – Academic Year 2025‑2026
Orange Coast College, as part of the Coast Community College District, is seeking student assistants at three levels—Student Assistant I (Entry‑Level/Semi‑skilled), Student Assistant II (Intermediate/Advanced), and Student Assistant III (Specialist/Lead)—for a variety of roles within the district. Positions are available for the 2025‑2026 academic year and are defined by the Student Employment Program.
Responsibilities- Student Assistant I: Work under immediate supervision on standardized, routine, and repetitive duties that may involve the use of established procedures, special equipment, or software applications. Responsibilities include following detailed instructions and maintaining consistent workflow.
- Student Assistant II: Work under general supervision on varied assignments. Responsibilities involve applying moderate independent judgment, handling confidential information and sophisticated data systems, and completing tasks with a degree of autonomy. Requires at least one year of experience in the same student assistant assignment.
- Student Assistant III: Work under general supervision with broad skill sets. Responsibilities include independent judgment, decision‑making, and potentially directing the work of lower‑level student employees. Requires at least two years of experience in the same student assistant assignment.
- Part‑time student status: enrolled in a minimum of 6 units at one or a combination of the three colleges within the Coast Community College District during the 2025‑2026 academic year.
- Student status at least part‑time and current enrollment in the district.
- Student Assistant I:
Little or no prior experience or education required. - Student Assistant II:
Some previous knowledge, experience, or education required. - Student Assistant III:
Prior experience, education, or specialized skills required. - Demonstrated evidence of responsiveness to and understanding of diversity, equity, inclusion, accessibility, and anti‑racism in the student population (DEIA).
- Ability to balance work and studies.
- Students may not exceed 19.5 working hours per week during fall and spring semesters and a maximum of 28 hours per week outside of those semesters.
- Students cannot be employed in any other capacity within the district during the same fiscal year (July 1 – June 30).
- Student Assistants are at‑will employees, have no entitlement rights to any position in the district, and are not eligible for benefits.
- Regular attendance is essential; inability to meet attendance requirements may preclude continued employment.
- Employees are required to be mandated reporters under California child‑abuse and neglect reporting laws and must comply with district policies, procedures, and Title IX.
The SELECTED CANDIDATE must complete the following prior to employment:
- Have fingerprints taken by a Live Scan computer at the candidate’s expense (clearance received before the first day of employment).
- Present original documents proving eligibility to work in the United States, including a Social Security Card.
- Participate in a new‑hire onboarding appointment with an Employment Services Representative.
