The Process Engineer, Optical Products will be responsible for designing optical assemblies that incorporate custom glass, polymer, acrylic materials, and thin-film coatings. This role involves developing, improving, and maintaining manufacturing processes for optical products, including:
- Optical thin-film deposition
- Dichroic and conductive thin films
- Custom chemistry glass
- Optical bonding
- EMI shielding
- Polymer manufacturing
- Plastic molding
The engineer will optimize processes, tooling, and manufacturing techniques to ensure designs meet product specifications. Additionally, they will serve as a technical interface with the coating production team and collaborate with manufacturing teams to improve process yields, product quality, engineering efficiency, and process consistency.
Key Responsibilities- Collaborate with engineering and manufacturing teams to develop advanced manufacturing processes for optical products and components.
- Support both display and optical product divisions, contributing to research and development in advanced materials and optical bonding technologies.
- Research, experiment, analyze, and qualify materials and processes for new and existing products.
- Implement data-driven solutions based on rigorous testing and scientific evidence.
- Provide technical engineering support for customer projects, requiring expertise in material science, chemistry, optical bonding techniques, and materials.
- Maintain meticulous data collection and record-keeping for tests and process improvements.
- Utilize statistical tools such as Minitab or JMP for process optimization and Six Sigma methodologies.
- Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., Solid Works).
- Experience in glass fabrication (preferred).
- Knowledge of polymer manufacturing and optical bonding (preferred).
- Hands-on experience in liquid and dry optical bonding, adhesive applications, cleanroom practices, and environmental test equipment.
- Familiarity with metrology, optical measuring techniques, and equipment.
- Strong understanding of Six Sigma tools, including Design of Experiments (DOE).
- Demonstrated ability to improve processes and solve technical challenges.
- Experience designing and conducting environmental testing.
- Proven track record in working with production teams to meet customer specifications, expectations, and delivery timelines.
- Experience interacting with customers on technical and commercial issues, or in a program management role.
- Bachelor’s degree in Optics, Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, or a related technical discipline (Advanced degree preferred, especially with research experience). 3+ years of experience in a manufacturing or design environment.
- 2+ years of experience in optics, optical bonding, adhesives.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- U.S. citizenship or Permanent Resident is a requirement.

- Results-oriented with the ability to work under pressure.
- Analytical mindset with strong attention to detail.
- Ability to train others effectively.
- Travel internationally up to 20%.
