BDO USA is seeking a highly motivated Tax Manager to lead client engagements focused on ASC 740 compliance, corporate tax strategy, and integrated financial reporting. The role requires deep technical knowledge, strong client advisory skills, and proven supervisory experience.
Job SummaryThe Core Tax Services (CTS) Manager – ASC 740 serves as the primary client contact for complex corporate tax and ASC 740 matters. Responsibilities include advising on tax implications of business objectives, selecting optimal compliance actions, and communicating risks and policy changes to clients.
Responsibilities- Tax Compliance
- Ensure client compliance with all applicable authorities while minimizing tax and reporting burdens.
- Conduct top‑level review of tax rulings and resolve tax issues.
- Manage engagement process including budgeting, staffing, billing, and collection.
- Provide timely client advice and manage expectations.
- Research
- Identify research needs and frame ASC 740 issues for analysis.
- Develop research methodology and train staff.
- Involve firm specialists as appropriate.
- ASC 740 Tax Accruals
- Apply BDO Tax Quality Manual (TQM) and ASC 740 policy proactively.
- Explain uncertain tax positions to clients.
- Manage Specialized Tax Services (STS) support.
- Tax Consulting
- Develop and implement methods to maximize client tax benefits.
- Consider CTS and STS consulting specialties.
- Frame projects for delegation to associates and seniors.
- Tax Specialization
- Maintain in‑depth knowledge of one or more tax areas (e.g., corporate, export, transfer pricing).
- Conduct internal CPE training sessions.
- Mentor associates on ASC 740 practices.
- Strategy Development
- Create new ideas to improve client, firm, or personnel positions.
- Present complex strategies to clients and prospects.
- Collaborate with National Tax teams to deliver high‑quality ASC 740 analyses.
- Other duties as required.
- Supervise Associates and Senior Associates on all projects.
- Review and provide feedback on their work.
- Train staff on current software tools.
- Act as a career advisor and manage workload.
- Provide verbal and written performance feedback.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Taxation (required).
- Master’s degree in Accounting or Taxation (preferred).
- Five (5) or more years of prior experience (required).
- Experience managing ASC 740 preparation and audit for private and public clients (required).
- Supervisory experience (required).
- Multinational client experience (preferred).
- CPA, Attorney licensed to practice in a U.S. jurisdiction, or IRS Enrolled Agent (EA) – one of these is required.
- Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook), Adobe Acrobat (required).
- Tax research databases such as BNA and RIA.
- Tax compliance software:
Go File Room , GoSystem
RS, Caseware, BNA Depreciation, or comparable programs (preferred).
- Superior verbal and written communication.
- Effective delegation and teamwork.
- Strong analytical, research, and decision‑making skills.
- Client relationship development and management.
- Executive presence and primary client contact for issue presentation.
Salary ranges vary by location (e.g., California $102,300–$150,000). Full benefits and ESOP participation details available upon request.
