THE VACANCY

This recruitment is open and promotional, meaning all are welcome to apply and employees in permanent positions are eligible to receive seniority credit and promotional placement once passing all exams.

There is currently one vacancy in the Maintenance and Operations Department (8 hours per day, 5 days per week, 12 months per year).

A negotiated salary increase is not yet reflected on this system. The approved increase brings Step 1 to $6,318.00.

BASIC FUNCTION

Under the direction of the Manager, Maintenance and Operations, perform skilled locksmith duties in the installation, repair and maintenance of the District including locks, keys and related parts; cut new keys; re‑key locks.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience

Any combination equivalent to graduation from high school and four years journey‑level locksmith experience.

Licenses and Other Requirements

Valid California driver's license.

Qualifying. Performance/Qualifications Appraisal Interview: 100%.

The supplemental questions to the application will be reviewed and rated for certification. These questions are required at the time of application and are qualifying.

An eligibility list will be established for successful candidates which will be used to fill open positions during the life of the list.

Examinations and interviews held to create the eligible list will be conducted in‑person.

The Performance/Qualifications Appraisal Interview examination is tentatively scheduled for the week of January 12th.

REPRESENTATIVE

DUTIES

Perform skilled locksmith duties in the installation, repair and maintenance of mechanical locking systems, door/exit hardware and related parts.

Install, repair and maintain electro‑mechanical locking systems and related hardware; troubleshoot and maintain software for card access; maintain electronic access control rosters.

Repair, replace and maintain a variety of door closures, door holders, push and pull plates, kick plates, peepholes and hinges; install latches and deadbolts; install and maintain panic exit devices.

Cut new, replacement or duplicate keys as required, re‑key locks and cylinders for entries, casework, desks, padlocks, file drawers and furniture.

Repair, open and remove locks; disassemble locks; clear keyways of obstructions; repair, replace and alter worn tumblers, springs and other parts.

Research and evaluate products for best sources; estimate materials needed for various projects; order materials as needed.

Read and interpret blueprints and specifications; make recommendations for related hardware or access control plans.

Prepare and maintain work orders, records, and reports related to work performed; receive and record supplies and materials according to established procedures.

Maintain records and security of duplicate keys and submit to approved contractors and agencies.

Operate a variety of equipment, tools and machines such as welders, bench and hand grinders, drills, hammers, key machines, drill presses, stamps and hand tools; calibrate key machines and sharpen tools as required; operate a District vehicle to conduct work.

Communicate with administrators, skilled maintenance personnel, contractors and others concerning construction, maintenance and repair issues.
