Speech Therapist - PRN (Healthcare)

Evaluate patients within twenty-four (24) hours, or 1 business day of physician referral. If unable to complete evaluation in 24 hours, documentation in medical record clearly defines cause for delay.

Develop effective treatment plan and obtain approval for services from referring physician. Treat patients per the physician treatment plan.

Supervise Speech Language Pathologist Assistants in direct patient care and patient-related activities, following state practice act. Communicate with supervisor and other health team members regarding patient progress, problems, and plans.

Participate in Patient Care Conferences, Utilization Review meetings, and Rehabilitation Conferences as needed. Participate in in-service training programs for other staff in the facility.

Record evaluations, daily treatment notes, weekly progress notes, recertification documentation, per Speech and Language Pathologist in the Board State Practice Act and governmental and third-party payer requirements. Record treatment changes per policy and procedures.

Instruct patients' families or nursing staff in maintenance programs and caregiver training in preparation for discharge from therapy services. Participate in discharge planning.

Act as a clinical preceptor for affiliating CFY/RFP Speech Language Pathologist and student programs. Comply with the Speech Language Pathology and Audiology Bureau State Practice Act and facility policies and procedures.

Maintain a positive, effective, and appropriate relationship with patients/residents, families, staff, and professional colleagues.

Supervisory Requirements

Supervises CFY - Speech Clinical Fellows, if applicable, and assists nursing with training of Restorative Aides.

Qualifications
  • Education and/or

    Experience:

    Bachelor's degree in Speech Language Pathology;
    Master's or Doctorate preferred.
  • Proficient in computer skills such as inputting data into programs like Casamba and Point Click Care.
  • Language

    Skills:

    Ability to read technical procedures, policy manuals, and effectively communicate information.
  • Mathematical

    Skills:

    Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions.
  • Reasoning Ability:
    Ability to solve practical problems and interpret instructions in various forms.
  • Licenses &

    Certifications:

    Licensed as a Speech Therapist in the state, with ongoing continuing education requirements.
Physical Demands

Requires frequent standing, walking, reaching, talking, hearing, and frequent exertion of force. Occasionally climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling. Vision abilities include close, distance, color, peripheral, and depth perception.

Work Environment

Typically low to moderate noise level. Reasonable accommodations made for individuals with disabilities.
