Responsibilities

Center for Change is seeking a full‑time care technician to assist the clinical and nursing staff in providing secure, safe, and supportive treatment to patients suffering from an eating disorder. Center for Change – Cottonwood Heights is an outpatient healthcare clinic with full‑, part‑time, and on‑call staff covering regular shifts. On‑call Care Techs may be called in to fill a variety of shifts depending on staffing needs and when other staff are ill, on vacation, or otherwise unable to fill shifts.

As a member of the direct care staff, hours vary from a minimum of 8 hours up to 40 hours per week, averaging 24‑32 hours per week. This is an excellent entry‑level position for individuals who would like to gain experience in the mental health field. Care techs work closely with patients, provide daily support and assistance with activities of daily living, and are expected to mentor healthy attitudes and behaviors.

They eat meals and snacks with the patients to model an intuitive relationship with food and monitor patients during these times. Care techs also join a variety of experiential therapies and groups such as recreational therapy, movement therapies, art therapy, music therapy, and other group therapies such as body‑image and 12‑step. Care techs work directly with patients in goal setting and follow‑up, enforce program rules, and encourage patients in finding their own coping skills.

• Care Techs must have consented to a driving record check and meet the following driving qualifications: at least 21 years of age; valid driver’s license; no more than two at‑fault accidents in the past three years; no more than three moving violations during the past three years; no DWI or DUI convictions.
• Direct care staff are required to model healthy attitudes and behaviors about food by eating with patients, serving appropriate portions, eating a variety of foods until moderately full, and treating all foods with the same moral value. They will eat all food groups: meats, poultry, fish, fruits, dairy products, desserts, etc.

Base wage: $16.00 per hour without a Bachelor’s Degree; $17.00 per hour with a Bachelor’s Degree. Tuition reimbursement may be available, but is not guaranteed, for full‑time employees.
