Typical Assignments- Enforcing customs, immigration, and agriculture laws and regulations
- Facilitating the flow of legitimate trade and travel
- Conducting inspections of individuals and conveyances
- Determining the admissibility of individuals for entry into the United States
- Preventing the illegal entry of individuals and prohibited goods and the smuggling of illicit drugs and contraband

Recruitment Incentives – 4‑Year Service Contract

Annual Base Salary (GS‑5 and GS‑7)
- $40,332 – $109,952 per year
Locality pay varies by duty location. A fully trained CBPO may be eligible for up to $45,000 in overtime pay in addition to the starting salary. Grade levels progress from GS‑5 to GS‑12 with 52‑week promotion eligibility.
Qualifications GS‑5- Experience: Minimum of three (3) full‑time general work years demonstrating ability to work with people and apply facts.
- Education Substitution: Bachelor’s degree or completion of a 4‑year college program.
- Combination: Successful completion of college education AND general work experience, assessed via resume and transcripts.
- Experience: Minimum of one (1) year of specialized full‑time work experience equivalent to the lower grade level, including:
- Performing physical inspections for criminal activity, fraud, or illegal operations
- Using observational techniques, evaluating facts, reviewing documentation under federal, state, or local laws
- Making determinations that may lead to arrests, seizures, fines, or penalties
- Education Substitution: Bachelor’s degree with superior academic achievement (GPA 3.0+ or honor society) or one (1) full year of graduate‑level education.
- Combination: Specialized work experience equivalent to the lower grade level AND graduate‑level education, assessed via resume and transcripts.
